Why does Maokai one shot Viktor

I just played a game against a Maokai as Viktor. Towards the end of the game (only about 20 minutes) Maokai was able to w -> e -> q me. I understand why I can't kill him; however it baffles me how a Maokai is able to actually oneshot combo anyone in the game. This is just stupid how tanks can do so much damage and don't die while also having tons of CC loaded on top. Tanks shouldn't do damage and shoud have CC or should maybe do some damage and have less CC, but they shouldn't do tons of damage and be unkillable. The Maokai had a sunfire, visage, corrupt pot, and dorrans ring btw.

how much mr did you build?

how much mr did you have from runes?

edit.: alright. from what im seeing here youre not building any form of defense and go full glass cannon on him. even your runepages are full ap and magic penetration and dont give you any form of defense.

dont be surprised that his base damage cuts through your base defenses.

he probably dealt true damage to you.

it obviously matters. viktor has no base mr scaling, so you were sitting on 30 before penetration from lvl 1 - 18.

how many levels did he have on you?

mao 's W with about 200-225 ap and some magic pen ( items like item 3068 item 3027 item 3151 ) and max rank will do about 23% of a targets maxium hp as magic damage... and if you have NO MR he is doing true damage to you...

and if he has a item 3025 and autos inbetween the procs he has high base ad and his autos will do alot of damage as well

Even if its true damage, why if it fine for tanks with, if anything, 1 hybrid offensive-defensive item to kill carries in pretty much 1 rotation? Like how much damage did he build? How much damage did he have from runes?

we know absolutely nothing about what happened there. it sounds like there is a lot of information missing.

for starters, the guy is bronze 2 and is running grasp on fiora.

Still, all you need to do is play the game and you see tanks like Poppy, Naut, Zac,... basically 100-0 carries or at least chunk them hard with 0 damage items. Always bugged me why tanky champs can do that much, unavoidable, damage lol.

This game is designed such that damage outscales defense.

Unsurprisingly, this applies to base damage and base defense too.

Would make sense if damage actually outscaled defense. Yet only a few champs can deal with tanks and I see adcs with 5 items including Lord Dominiks do no damage to like 250 armor tanks xd

except that none of it is unavoidable. you can stay out of range of nautilus and poppy, you can dodge zacs abilities.

Zac E is the only thing that you might be able to actually dodge but even if you do, sadly it doesnt matter anymore cause he is still in your face.
