Thoughts on Aurelion Sol?

Just curious, in the current meta, how strong you would rate Sol at the moment. I know he has a lot of unfavorable matchups in the midlane (most notably Kassadin, Diana, Akali, etc), but I feel he also has matchups against immobile mages in which he performs well and then helps out other lanes. After he builds his core item 3030 , item 3116 , item 3151 , he has great chase potential and excels in team fighting but was wondering if he's viable as a blind pick? And if not, under what instances do you see him being a good choice? Thoughts plz!!

Doesn't Asol have the biggest winrate gap between 1-50 games played and 200+ games played? Like newer players have a sub 50% winrate but people with 150-200 games have the highest mid winrate in the game and one of the top 3 highest winrates?

Honestly I think he is sleeper OP but his lack of popularity makes it so he has a very very small number of dedicated mains who can play him at that level.

Absoloteluy love the champion design but the fact most of his damage revolves around his body is overwhelming. You have to be at a certain angle to get some done correctly and his ult feels like the only thing that does actual damage. I've gotten him 3-4 times over in URF but i refuse to get on shot on accordance to his squishyness.

He was scheduled for a rework months after he came out but it was scrapped actually. Riot stated they didn't like how hard he was. The reason only those with 200+ games can play him is because not only does he play macro over micro, but he also plays differently for damage than any other champion. He has a fairly weak lane phase which is made clear by his roam strength, much like TF. The difference is that TF has a point and click stun for defense, Sol has his ult if he's 6 and it's up. They can't rework him either because of how tightly tied his kit is. Changing one spell would make his kit fall apart, and they realized he would need a full rework, but that he just came out so giving him one would be a slap in the face to say Yorick who was still in his old state. Overall he is strong if played well, but his gameplay is both unappealing to many as well as hard as fuck, so until his skill floor is lowered, he will be a champ with nearly no play but vast power.

Aurelion Sol is NOT a blind pick champion. You basically play Russian roulette at champ select if you first pick him. That doesn't mean he is a bad champion. His greatest problem is that he isn't as user-friendly. His skill ceiling is so high, that most newer players play one or two games, do miserably, and then abandon the champion.

The number one thing (according to Huhi, the premier Aurelion Sol player) that you need to consider is his positioning in teamfights. Without a coordinated team that will aggressively peel for you and provided a front line, Aurelion Sol is a sub-par pick. He is probably the most niche champion created to date. He only shines in very specific circumstances, however he can shine quite brightly when the stars align.
