New Jungle Item

Hi everyone, I just saw the following post by League of Legends,-----

"There are some AP junglers that aren't well supported in the jungle who we think should be. To help, we’re exploring replacing Runeglaive with a new AP-focused jungle item so it has a less exclusionary design (ie: something that supports broader mage patterns). We're also considering whether we'll need to tweak jungle monster stats as well, with a focus on initial clear capabilities, but will have more details in the future."

---- and I thought that the part about "replacing Runeglaive" was a terrible idea. I play a lot of AP jungles and I truly enjoy the Runeglaive enchantment and wouldn't want to see it go. Now, with that being said, I think a NEW AP jungle item would be fantastic. I definitely understand not wanting to buy Runeglaive on classic jungle champions like Fiddlesticks, and some of the non-meta AP jungles like Malzahar. I know that I, personally would never buy lichbane on Malzahar mid, so why would I want it when I'm in the jungle? I'm just saying, Riot please don't "replace" Runeglaive, just add another ap jungle enchantment. There are two enchantments currently that benefit AD jungles, devourer and warrior, so why not two for AP jungles also? Then you might not have to tweak with the jungle monsters stats so much either.

I can't even tell you how badly I want them to keep Runeglaive in the game and just add another AP item. First of all, I'm biased because I build Runeglaive on my main (Hecarim), and secondly, Riot wants to promote "jungle diversity" but getting rid of Runeglaive isn't the right way of going about that. There are numerous comments/threads/etc. that make the argument to keep Runeglaive while simply adding a new "Magus" item for champions like Fiddle, but I really don't think Riot will do that. It saddens me, because now Hecarim will be completely unplayable in the jungle, and I don't enjoy top lane at all (nor am I any good at it).

Also, before people start calling me an idiot for building Runeglaive on Hecarim, I'll just support the fact that it is the best jungle item on Hecarim.

Hecarim is one of the best Spellblade users in the game, so the early Sheen from Runeglaive is fantastic on him. Hecarim has a 0.8 AP ratio on his W and a 1:1 AP ratio on his ultimate, so the AP on Runeglaive, contrary to popular belief, isn't a wasted stat on Hecarim at all. Hecarim has terrible mana sustain in the jungle and his clear is average at best. Runeglaive fixes both of those problems. Valkrin (one of the best players in the NA server, I think he's ranked 14 in Challenger atm) played Runeglaive Hecarim for a while before his nerfs and had a fantastic win rate and KDA with it.

So basically what I'm trying to say is is that Hecarim will no longer be a viable jungle choice once Runeglaive is removed, and that makes me very sad. I've been practicing some new junglers but I might just swap to a support main until they buff Hecarim in some way to compensate for the completely unjustified nerfs that he got last patch, and the inevitable removal of his best jungle item.

Runeglaive was nerfed so hard in patch 5.22 that it is probably better to buy Lich bane or Iceborn Gauntlet as Jungler.

I played Evelynn and Nasus jungle with Runeglaive, both are also one of the best Sheen users. But in patch 5.22 Runeglaive was nerfed, while its cost was increased, and at the same time Lich bane and Iceborn Gauntlet was granted 10% additional CDR. I never bought Runeglaive since then, but Lich bane on Evelynn jungle and Iceborn Gauntlet on Nasus Jungle, while buying no T2/T3 jungle item. Both works fine.

I don't play Hecarim, but I think Runic echo is not that bad for him. It gives mana sustain too, no mana tough, but you can buy sheen afterwards. But the good thing is the 10% movement speed. Because of Hecarims passive he will gain 6-12 AD from Runic Echos along with 60 AP that everyone gets. I would try it first, before I would say it is worse than Runeglaive.

Not sure if you actually saw what it was, but its called Runic Echo's and is essentially the same thing except instead of a lich bane passive its a ludens one.

it also is impossible to use as effectively. especially on champs like evelynn and diana (they'll get 1 proc of the new item compared to 3-4 per camp) Also with it being a ludens type proc...diana q's in a gank, clips a minion gratz you just lost a chunk of your burst on the laner. It is a straight up worse item in my honest opinion >.> and guess what....FIDDLESTICKS STILL WON'T BUY IT...he is still going to upgrade to blue smite, then rush RoA or zhonya and completely ignore the jungle enchant just like he did with magus...

Back when it was first mentioned a lot of Fiddlesticks mains came out to say that this is a great buff and will make fiddlesticks fit fine since he will most likely buy Runic Echoes. Also, there are very few champions that only benefit from sheen proc and not from ludens (Diana is one that does not). Examples like Amumu Chogath Ekko Elise Fiddlesticks Fizz Gragas Jax Malphite Nunu Nidalee and much more benefit just as much from sheen as they do ludens, some more on the ludens side. It would certainly be better if both jungle items were available, but this change will open up a lot of opportunities for a wider variety of AP champions to do well in the jungle.
