Keep getting first pick and get countered picked

Dynamic Q gave me first pick 10 games in a row. Team was unresponsive to trades and so I had to blind pick a top laner and got countered all 10 games. This is dumb. Didn't feel like playing a meta champ since it's normals. Riot needs to alternate who gets to pick first.

You avoid it by:

  • Trading with someone else.
  • Picking a safe, versatile top laner (Jayce, Renekton, etc).
  • Playing safe and waiting for ganks if you got countered. Even if you don't get ganks, sit back and don't feed. It's not always on you to carry every game.

I don't see how 'alternating' would work. It's total 50-50 and you got very unlucky with that coin flip.

Trading with someone else.

Didn't he just say that this wasn't working?

playing against your counter is how you learn to improve, playing against easy opponents will make you weaker

I first pick Nasus a lot. I will try to trade if I can, but in general he is my best champion and learning how to play when you get countered improves your ability to play your main and improve significantly.

I had to learn to play against Pantheon Darius and Teemo to get better as a player to get into gold.

How I look at it: By picking my best champion I give myself the best chance of winning. By the enemy counter-picking me they are presumably not playing their best champion. Their chance of winning goes down in order to have an specific advantage over your selection. You are still better off playing who you are best with when they decide to not pick their best champion. If their main IS the counter-pick than you would have faced that champion in all likelihood anyways. You will probably lose that match-up if your skill is equal.

You know how many mediocre Darius Pantheon and Teemos I have played against? I have only run into issues with counter-picks when their main champion is a direct counter to mine. I typically get dumpstered, but there is not much I could have done in those scenarios except learn to get better against that matchup. I see them as "informational matchups." I like playing against counter mains because then I gain a better undestanding of what a specific champion can do in the hands of a good player.

play a champion that can at least farm safely.even against hard counters you can at least cs under turret from range. if your gonna opt into a close range counter then your gonna have some bad time.
