Making ARAMs fun and fair again

I love ARAMs. It's 90% of what I do in LoL. Sometimes they're even fun.

What's NOT fun is one team totally rolling the other because they happened to get a kickass comp. That's barely fun to win, and it's definitely not fun to lose.

I know I'm not the only one who feels like this. What would be more fun would be to let BOTH teams trade during champ select. Sure, some people would rr based on what the other team has, but if you opened it up to cross trading it might make it more fair and fun. I'm so tired of having totally lopsided teams just out of "luck" (although it's obviously not random - some guy must sit there and decide which champs are in the "random" pool on a given day).

Just my thoughts/venting frustrations.

Key word is random. What you say happens to everyone at times. Most going in understand this. ARAM is fun as it is. Most games are pretty even. Routes are rare. I've played plenty of ARAM and have won more than lost and learned a bunch of champs in the process. I have tons of fun in ARAM.

I think they're making some changes to ARAM soon. Check the dev notes on the website.

Please Red aknowledge you've read this post. I love ARAM and I'd love devs to at least consider my suggestions!

Cross team trading would cause teams flame players for 'giving the enemy better champion'. Champion strength is very often a subjective feeling so it would be the case 90% of the time.

In the next patch there will be few QoL changes made to ARAM. To make ARAM 'fairer' I'd add few things from myself:

  1. Permanently ban: Lux, Ziggs, Veigar, Teemo, Shaco, Soraka - additionally banning Sona and Karma wouldn't hurt ;)
  2. Add 'weighted' initial comps - each champion should have it's power score and teams should have initial champions selected so their summary power score is as even as possible (still there would be better and worse team comps, but maybe there wouldn't be so many cases with impossible matchups)
  3. Open shop each time a turret is destroyed/you collected 3k gold since last death/different mechanic. If one can play good enough not to die in ARAM they should be rewarded, not punished by forcing them to kill themselves to be relevant later in the game. Getting killed in the right moment is a tactical skill, that's correct. Same as getting executed. But not dying for long enough to get enough gold for 3k+ item is even harder.
  4. Longer death timers late game (so games are easier concluded after won teamfights after 15 minutes mark)
  5. More gold in general (faster power spikes, faster games)

These changes IMO would reduce frustration from bad games in few ways:

  • less cancerous champions in the game
  • less stompy games (at least theoretically even teamcomps)
  • less stale games (anyone else having 40-60 minutes ARAMs from time to time?)
  • stompy games conclude faster (8 minuet early surrender won't suffice as people rerely surrender anyway)
