Toxic Players and Behavior

I've been playing LoL for a while now, over a year, maybe two. I always have to have a short talk with myself before I start the game. "Do I feel like dealing with assholes right now?" Sometimes I am lucky, and get a good team that wants to help each other grow and win. The other 99% of the time, it's basically like playing alone against 9 other people who cannot be distinguished between friend and foe. Oh you have teammates, but they are also your rivals. And many of them behave as though they've known you for a long time and hold a personal grudge against you. Constant competition for last hit gold is a big divider. Unless your lane partner has a gold production item, they probably need some of that gold in order to keep up in the game. That thought just does not occur to most LoL players. Not that they know this and choose to ignore it, I'm saying their brains are so beyond "help others" that that little whispy thought has never run through their heads at all, to be ignored or otherwise. They are only concerned with how strong or overpowered they can get as quickly as possible. This kind of competition between teammates promotes distrust, bitter attitudes, and harassment. The cutthroat style is made so much worse by the anonymity of being an online game. Some things I've seen said between teammates would get you in a fight or worse in real life. Zero respect is shown between these angry, hostile, greedy competitors. I saw someone say to his teammate, "You are fucking garbage." It's dehumanizing behavior. And that's just what this system promotes. Nothing can be done about it really. You either play nice and fall behind, for which you will get lots of verbal abuse, or you become a sort of online mobster. I have not seen the amount of trolls and toxic players that I've encounter in LoL in any other form of online gaming that I've been exposed to (this includes WoW Barrens chat of older days).

You've only been playing in bot games for the past months. I'm not saying this never happens, but stop spitting out BS on how 99% everyone is a jerk, because that means it is probably you who is the problem.

Perpetuated Negativity. Not always the complaining person who is at fault. The community is hostile towards negativity, that doesn't make it go away or get better, that makes it worse.

It IS interesting to me how the only comments so far have been about me and how wrong I must be rather than the content of my message. Don't try to attack my argument by attacking me. It may make you feel better, but doesn't really help anyone or progress the discussion.

My comment wasn't even directed at you.

I was only agreeing with your statement and adding a comment of my own.

Not at all, sorry it came across that way. :)

If you take 99% of GAMES and realize it only takes 1 of 4 people being a jerk to "have a jerk in game", you'd realize I said roughly 25% of people I've played with would be considered jerks to me, not 99% of people. Although sometimes there are more than one per game.

I'll be honest, I've been playing this game for 4-5 years, give or take, I'd say I have a rate of...5-10% where I have to deal with toxic people (pick it up to 10-20% in ranked), so I don't really understand these people who say they have asshats on every game.

If anything, I put people on "timeout" when I see them starting to go ballistic, as I mute them for 5-10 minutes and then unmute to see if they're still at it or chilled down.
