Suggestion to fix Mastery system
Hi Riot!
As it currently stands, i feel the Mastery system doesn't properly translate a player's skill or experience on certain champions. For example, I have achieved Mastery 7 on Fiora, but if you look at my actual OP.GG stats for this champion, they are not good. I also experience this in countless games and I'm sure many other players do as well, where players with no mastery are often playing better than players with Mastery 7. Because of this, when I get into loading screen and see the Mastery 7 icon I often don't even pay attention to it and it seems meaningless. Often times that Mastery 6 or 7 means they have just had a few good games on that champion, and not that they are actually skilled or experienced with that champion. This being said, I have a solution to this issue.
Instead of making Mastery levels solely based on achieving S a few times, it should be based on actual total mastery points (or Champion Points). Something like this:
0 - 999: No Mastery 1,000 - 9,999: Mastery 1 10,000 - 99,999: Mastery 2 100,000 - 499,999: Mastery 3 500,000 - 999,999: Mastery 4 1,000,000+ : Mastery 5 (numbers & mastery levels subject to change)
I feel like games played is what most accurately measures how skilled a player is on a certain champion and I feel like players who put a lot of time into a champion should be rewarded with exclusive Mastery levels based on mastery points. For example, as a Fizz main with over 1 million mastery points, my Fizz (which is my best champion), is on the same level with my Fiora (which is very bad) and I see this as completely inaccurate and don't feel rewarded for having spent so much time learning fizz.
(Maybe win rates on champions can also affect mastery level but I think making the system based on mastery points and not just getting an S is the most important first step to fixing this issue)
