Why Did I Get The Rank I Did

NaCL Rush··1 votes·845 views

I'm not entirely sure how ranking works, but I really want to know why I got the rank that I did. I won 7 out of 10 of my ranked games and had a positive KDA every game except 1 or 2. So why did I get bronze V? I'm not trying to say I'm better than everyone but I do want to understand the logic behind the placement.

I am going to parse this opening thread and show why you got bronze

I'm not entirely sure how ranking works,

This becomes painfully obvious when you read the rest of the thread. More later

but I really want to know why I got the rank that I did. I won 7 out of 10 of my ranked games and had a positive KDA every game except 1 or 2

KDA means nothing in a team game. The fact you are using it in a objective base game says a lot about how you play. The rank system never has nor will use champion mastery or KDA. So stop bothering with those metrics as a reason why you should not be X rank.

So why did I get bronze V? I'm not trying to say I'm better than everyone but I do want to understand the logic behind the placement.

You finished bronze last season, do you really think that you were playing against all Gold level + opponents in your placements? The system moved everyone down from the last season finish; this process is called a soft reset. Challenger level players placed in gold and plat after their placements.

You wen 7/10 against other bronze level players. That does not mean you get to magically bump you higher than you were last season.

This thread is an example of why you are bronze by the way; horrible logic and assumptions based off the thought you should be better.

riot resets everyone pretty hard at the beginning of the season, so that people don't just stay in high ranks that they don't deserve without working for it. they expect that you will be able to climb out, and if you can't.. well.. you deserve to be there lol

I know I'm not super good at the game and probably should be in bronze, but I'm still a little confused. Last season I won less games than I did this time (and did worse in KDA too), yet last season after my placements got Bronze III

I'm not positive, but I'm pretty sure that when you are placed, your KDA in your placement games are not considered at all. Everything hinges on your hidden MMR, how many games you won, and I think the MMR of your oppenents. Generally though everyone drops quite a ways. Last season I went from Gold 5 to Silver 3 after going 6-4. This season I ended Gold 4 and so far I am 6-0 on placements so I am very interested to see how far I drop this time when I complete them. I'd imagine I'll drop to low Silver :/

But you can make it back to where you were! Just focus on yourself and try to improve each game, even when you play well :)

Take the rank you eneded with last season, and regardless of how you do in placements it will most likely be lower. I had a friend win 5 of his placements, but because he ended last season as bronze 3 or 4 he got bronze 5. I have another friend who ended last season as silver 4, won none of his placements (0/10 the dream), and be placed in bronze 3. I ended last season as bronze 1, won 3 placements (like I did last season), and placed in bronze 4. Riot takes your elo, reduces it at the start of a season, and then after placements uses your previous rank as brownie points (unless you were high gold this really isn't going to do much for you).

The ranking system is currently confusing and messed up. Don't worry, if you keep doing this good you'll climb to Silver by tomorrow. Don't give up, Summoner!
