MMR/LP please help

Hello everyone! So I have been reading around about mmr and how it changes and exactly what it is and why LP for wins answer loses changes but I'm really not understanding it still.

To start off this post I will take about my placements this year which really has me confused... I went 7-3 and basically dominated all the games with a huge positive KDA and got out into bronze 4.... don't think I will ever understand that lol but o well, if anyone has input it would be nice on why that happened.....

So at bronZe 4 I played a bunch of games going back and forth with winning and losing. Finally I got a on 6 game win streak bringing me to bronze 3 and then shortly after I got onto a 5 game win streak which went through my placements. I thought o maybe I'll jump bronze 2 and go right into bronze 1 but nope... just got put into bronze 2. But what I find crazy is how I go on those huge win streaks and climb and my mmr just says it's normal which is ok but then I lose 2 games in a row and it completely destroys my MMR and says it's way below average. How is this possible? I know plenty of people who lose games here and there and their mmr doesn't go to crap like mine did. Also I'm o my getting around 22LP per win and losing 17-18 per loss. What exactly is affecting my LP gains/losses and why does my mmr drop so drastically after 2 losses even though my past matches I went around 16-4 per say. I know lots of people ask about his stuff but I would just really like to understand what is going on here? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

Where are you getting your information from when it comes to your MMR? When you say if you lose a couple games and it drops, are you then losing more LP than you gain for winning? A two game loss streak is not enough to completely destroy your MMR. Also, your score has virtually no impact on your MMR.

Eh... I would counter that with how the logic worked with my ranking this season. Most people dropped. I gained then dropped after a few loses. The how I dropped was the most ridiculous thing I've seen.

Thats because placement games have a high effect in your MMR, especially the first few you play. In that case, a couple games could indeed mess up your MMR. But if we're talking normal ranked games here, theres no way a two loss streak is ruining your MMR.

I use na.op for my information on mmr. I have not gotten to the point where I am losing more then I gain yet. Yea I kno 2 games losing isn't bad but according to na.op it's telling me my mmr is way below average now and that just doesn't make sense to me lol... just this whole mmr thing I do not understand.

If your LP gains/losses aren't changing, then your MMR hasn't either. op.gg is only an estimate, and from what I've read its been really inaccurate this season with ranked ques changing.

If your MMR is high enough you can actually skip Divisions after winning promos like PantsAreDragon. (EX: D3 right to D1, skipping D2)

I'm not sure about the exact mathemagix, but here is what I know...

MMR = Match Making Ranking. It's the number the system uses to put you in a match with "people that are about your size".

Placements: From what I understand, MMR isn't totally reset at the beginning of a season, only your division is. At the end of your promos, a division is given to you based on that semi-reset MMR. That's why a player who was diamond 1 last season is likely to be placed somewhere in platinum even if he loses all of his placement matches (his MMR is still pretty high). That's why a player who was bronze 5 last season is still likely to be placed somewhere in bronze, even after winning all of his promos (MMR is still pretty low).

LP: The match making groups players with similar MMR for a game, but it's almost never an exactly even match. One of the team has an average MMR greater than the other. When you win a game, your MMR increases a little. When you lose a game, it decreases a little. If you consistently win games against players with greater MMR than yours, your own MMR increases rapidly. If you consistently lose games against players with lower MMR than yours, your own MMR decreases rapidly. LP gain/loss is symptomatic of that MMR variance.

Winning matches increases your MMR. Higher MMR gives you harder matches against better players. Winning these harder matches gives you lots of LP.

So, winning a lot of matches but not challenger yet? It's because you're improving, but you're still not winning these meaningful matches were the enemy team has higher MMR than yours. You only skip division when you consistently win against players that should be much better than you according to the MMR. But here is an advice: don't focus on the LP and the divisions and the MMR, focus on improving your gameplay and everything will fall in place.

Hey! Thanks for the response i appreciate it def got some information out of it! You are right though, i just gotta focus on improving and eventually will get there. I do think i focus to much on what a site is telling me my mmr is and why its not going up and even my LP, just gotta focus on the big picture here i guess. Thanks though again. Maybe one day we will all really understand this whole ranking system and such.

Riot is intentionally not giving all the data about MMR. The information that 3rd party sites give you is a vague estimation. Don't beat yourself up with it ;)
