Some Needed Akali Discussion

Akali's E feels like an extra skill who just doesn't fit with her kit any more * /r/leagueoflegends

First off, I've been an Akali main for several years. I still remember when Riot had just released her. At the time, I didn't really care for her. It was only until mid S2 that I started playing her, and began to realize her potential both in game and as a character in general. Carrying myself from bronze 5 to gold over the past few seasons playing mainly Akali has obviously made my view biased against her recent changes. I admit I have been salty about her nerf in recent weeks but this is no place for complaints. I just want to know how others like me feel about Akali's major nerf. I, myself, was contemplating posting about the same issue as the one in the Reddit link, but never really went through with it as I thought it wouldn't ever make a difference. Now that I have read through this Reddit post, I really hope I can see a legit response from fellow players about Akali's new kit.

IMHO, Akali's gameplay has changed drastically now for the worse, leaving her E to be, frankly, utterly useless. Akali was indeed in good time for a rework (coming from a main that is truly hard to admit) but these recent changes have been in my opinion much too drastic. No matter how many games good or bad, I've always had fun playing Akali solely because of her unique skillset and the various ways to exploit her kit in any game mode, from aram to ranked. However, now that she has been drastically changed, I just can't help but avoid playing her in any mode; she's just not fun anymore. I understand Riot's intention to balance her gameplay, but they honestly have taken her to a level (at least for me) where she is just not fun to play anymore. I am hoping to see future reworks of her skillset in order to truly restore her "balance" back into the game.

I hope that this post can spark a valuable discussion among players, as I believe that this is a serious issue. There are so many different factors at hand when it comes to placing a value on Akali's present gameplay, so the Reddit link should help. I just wanted to get this out there and please, if you want, help me share and comment on this issue. Thanks!

I personally never saw a problem with Akali even before the nerf. I almost never fed her in lane and the only time she would get fed is cause teams didn't ward up against her roam. Yes when fed she is a powerhouse, but if you paid proper attention to MIA pings and had ward coverage she was utterly useless. I could beat her easily with immobile champs like Lux cause I knew how to exploit her by snaring under towers if she tried to dive me.

That's funny you'd say that, since I would be happy as hell seeing a lux during champ select. On the contrary I was always able to exploit luxs in lane and feed off of them LOL. But I agree with your thoughts; simple things like MIAs and pinks/upgraded trinkets completely screwed me over. When she became perma-banned in queues I would get salty as hell and ask everyone why they thought she was OP, since I played her so much for so long. I thought it was because of sheeps in gold who just banned her because everyone else was banning her, which made it so hard for me to accept her recent nerfs. Now, however, I realize that there's no going back, only potential reworks and tweaks. So I'm now here with my first ever board post trying to make an indie discussion about my (then) favorite champ. Thanks for your thoughts!

Her E definatively feels a bit tacked on. This because it is truly a skill which lacks counterplay, or play for that matter. You press E and anyone close by takes damage.

No utility, no targetting, no decision (especially now when it no longer procs mark), it doesn't even do all that good single target damage.

Now she needs the AoE component (it's a quite important factor letting her be able to jungle even, being able to easily take razors), but the instaproc needs to go because it's just not... fun, nor good or anything.

There's two ways I'd love to see it remade.

One is as an empowered autoattack ala Vi's E, dealing AoE damage to a short, wide front arc (shorter and wider than Vi's).

The other is a short wide cone AoE.

In both cases, some utility would be sweet. Moving the slow from her W over here would make it tons of useful, but really, any form of utility would be great (maybe let proccing the mark with it be her Ult reset instead of her getting charges on kills and assists?).

Currently, this ability lacks play, because it's just there to provide more spellblade procs when you need it, and AoE when you're fighting monsters or minions.

They could give her a much more interesting Crescent Slash. One that you have to consider when you use.
