You build pure damage.
He has high ratios and his survivability relies on dishing out damage to fill his passive.
In other words; Suck at playing Morde and you'll feel like the squishiest piece of shit champion, actually get good at him and you'll never die.

Smack things and play air guitar.
Damage, hell yes, but not if you build tank. CC hell no, CC overrated. He basically has spellvamp built into his kit, with his damage being pretty insane.
He is a difficult champion to work with and can be overly punishing if you are unsure of what to do with him. Keep practicing and you will find something that works.
