Shiv or IE first on trist?

In the early game, what's better to pick up? I know you can usually make it out of lane with about enough for a bf sword but that requires staying in lane for 3 years. If I go back early is it better to start working towards the shiv or hold out for the IE? Some friends are adamant that IE is better but I'm not so sure.

It depends. If you're a pro and lane swapping, you go Pickaxe or BF sword into shiv and then finish IE. The pick/BF is decided on how much gold you have on your first back. The reason why people get the pick/BF is because it gives them the extra AD so they can actually last hit minions without having to worry too much and then they buy Shiv. If you really want to go shiv first, you SHOULD get a BF or Pick. The shiv will be better if you can complete it early and are actually trying to "force" an objective, basically the only one that should be available at that time being dragon. If you have the shiv for dragon, then you as trist will probably be able to make somewhat of an impact. If you can end up taking dragon without it, though, IE would have been better. Whichever you rush, just make sure you go the other second.

Also, it doesn't matter what your friends say as its interchangable. I've seen people build it both ways, so just do it to your preference. If you actually start feeling that its not working too well for you, trying switching it around to see if you get better results.

If you want to push your lane hard, I'd say Shiv. If not, I think IE.

Honestly for Trist, I go for BF sword/pickaxe (If I don't have enough for the BF sword) first, but leave it at that and finish shiv. You need atleast some damage to back up your attack speed and have your crits hit harder. It may not be the best way, but it's what has been working for me.

IE is must hava, thanks for the broken crit mechanism and ie buff

IE.

It's just so damn good atm. It is the best first item on almost all marksmen, and is a good choice on the rest(excluding corki/ezreal)

Corki and Ezreal should still still be getting IE, just not rushing it like others. It's more of a 3rd or 4th item. If you are playing them correctly you should always be mixing auto's with your spells for more damage output via sheen proc.

I meant that it is a good choice as a first item on everyone but corki and ez, and it's never a bad item.

Oh sorry then, I thought you meant that it was a completely bad item on them. Must've read incorrectly

trick says rush shiv

You always go at least pickaxe/bf sword into shiv. If you go straight shiv you are basically worthless for the first 25+ minutes of the game.

IE spikes your DPS considerably since you have a massive AS steroid built into your kit, meaning raw damage and crit scales batter as a first buy. Shiv is better second on her and turns you into a wave clear goddess

If you can buy a BF Sword on a good time to back, then I'd go for IE first. I saw Uzi (Best Tristana player in the world right now) go for an early Pickaxe for the raw AD, into Shiv, then finished up IE (or in one game, he just finished up a Last Whisper for an immediate power spike, because they were behind).

I also think Double Dorans into Shiv is pretty solid. I personally prefer Phantom Dancer, I just think the extra Crit Chance and Atk Spd are better than Shiv. It's kind of an OCD thing, I hate being at 45% Crit Chance from Shiv + IE, to me the 55% Crit Chance attained from PD + IE seems so much better.

Shiv works so damn well with her W, tho. Once you start getting resets, the damage output on the passive goes through the roof.

How many passive Shiv stacks does Trist's rocket jump give her? That's a very good point though, I hadn't considered that.

It gives 45 stacks, assuming you jump the full range.

Shiv in losing matchups, IE in winning ones.

Trist outscales almost everybody, so there's not much point in trying to match the mid game power of an ADC like Corki or Lucian - rather than building to optimize damage output, build to accelerate your progress to the late game where you outshine them.

If you get ahead early or have a wining lane matchup, however, then you can just build Trist like any other ADC - the Shiv first build is predicated on the assumption that the other ADC is stronger midgame, which won't be the case if you're up 20 cs at 10 minutes.

Shiv if laning is going to last a while. Trist already losing most trades due to the nerfs to her E. She needs the extra damage on those early auto trades.

PatMcGroyn1 votes

Damn, that's pretty nice. I still feel like the extra crit chance from PD lends to more single target dps, but I could see Shiv bein a good snowball choice.

Wow I was NOT expecting this much feedback. Thanks all!
