(NEW IDEA) Less items to choose from?

So, I was thinking, as someone who mains every role except fill... why don't we have like 10 items per class instead of a bunch of items that are not used.

For example:

Ludens Echoes is never really used anymore. Why don't we combo Luden's echo with the jg item Runic Echos to make 1 less item to scroll through?

Why?

  1. Saves times at base
  2. Encourage more play time

Another example... Archangel's Staff is rarely used on champs like Darius and Ziggs, so why don't we have that combined with Rod of Ages to make 1 less item to scroll through?

Just a thought. I'd rather have a condensed item list than a long one I get lost in!

The diversity that comes from the massive item list is actually a good thing and opens up the field for creative play and counter-play. There are a few MOBAs I've played that don't have as many items as LoL, and while it is a lot easier to remember what each one does and get through the shop screen faster, the communities and myself felt the want for more items because of the limited choices that are offered.

A better solution to what you're asking is cleaning up the shop screen somehow. Maybe first only presenting players with T1 items and a few early game consumables, then revealing any T2 items they could build into with their current inventory, and same thing with T3. All of this while giving the player the option to look ahead at T2 or T3 items for the more experienced players who know they'll want a Thornmail or something. It would probably make navigation a little easier, plus it doesn't overload new players that are becoming a little more proficient at the game who are trying to leave the recommended builds.
