More Flexible Buildpaths for Mages

I'm of the idea that mages need a lot of love these days, especially immobile mages such as Zyra, Brand or Malzahar . Not only are these severely harmed by the mobility creep, but mages in general seem to have a lot less flexibility in what to build than say Juggernauts, Junglers or Tanks do. While I won't say that we don't have our share of interesting and unique options, we certainly lack a consistent ability to capitalize on our own strengths.

An example would be mages who specialize in pushing, although these naturally possess good wave clear and lane control, I tend to find them lacking in the department of actually taking down turrets. Compared to champions such as Zed or Yasuo who often push just as hard but possess the immense advantage of having their primary stat being Attack Damage, which naturally increases their ability to destroy turrets.

I think you should bring back Rite of Ruin item 3430 to Summoner's Rift, with appropriate tweaks of course, to even the playing field. I'm aware that on pushing mages this item would be extremely powerful, but that's more or less the point, whenever a Zed leaves me behind to gank another lane I should be able to ruthlessly punish him for that by building accordingly. Aside from simply AAing the turret for laughably little damage compared to what he would do to mine were our positions reversed.

In regards to the mobility creep I think Netherstride Grimoire item 3431 could even the playing field there as well, it's passive is powerful, but has counterplay potential. It'd do wonders to make immobile mages more viable overall, just a thought.

I don't know much about Pox Arcana item 3434 but it too would've done great at empowering mages and giving them more flexible build paths overall. Even if you don't bring these items back, I'd love to see mages receive some love in regards to itemization.

I'm curious what these items did back in the day. I join in mid season 4, and I always like hearing about League's past and what riot tried back in the day.

On 10/17/2015 at 10:45 AM Central Time according to lolking here is your low mobility struggles.

Malzahar 53.5% winrate, third highest winrate champion in game. Brand 53.1% winrate, fifth highest winrate champion in game. Zyra 50.6% winrate, 47th highest winrate champion in game.

Who is the highest winrate champion in game ???????

Lux 54% winrate, highest winrate in game. Her high mobility is surely what got her this spot.

CLEARLY YOUR LACK OF MOBILITY IS KILLING YOU AND YOU NEED BUFFS, YOU FILTHY FREELO ABUSING MAGE MAINS.

But Kat Head, you used lol king and those numbers include bronies and normals. In ranked play low mobility really suffers.

On 10/17/2015 at 10:50 AM Central Time according to OP.GG In platinum and above, here are your low mobility struggles.

Malzahar 54.32% winrate, dropping to the 4th spot for overall winrate.

Brand 53.09% winrate, dropping to the 12th place while maintaining the same winrate.

Zyra 53.26% winrate, a massive improvement placing her just out side of the top ten best champions in the game at number 11.

Lux 53.58% winrate, dropping to 10th place out of all champions in the game.

Heimerdinger 54.07% winrate 6th best champion in the game, lot of mobility in this kit for sure.

  1. I did not even bring up Annie or Anivia.

LOW MOBILITY IS THE META, those without massive cc and incredible damage are at a huge disadvantage in this meta.

YOU NEED NO MORE NEW ITEMS OR BUFFS, YOU ARE TO STRONG ALREADY !
