Recalling with a shield

How long have we been able to recall while taking damage as long as the damage doesn't result in health lose.

For an example I was spectating a friend who was against a Malphite. He saw the malphite recalling over a wall and went to prevent it from finishing. When he used an ability on the malph to stop the recall it was not interrupted. When my friend asked about why his recall didnt stop malph responded with "my passive".

Has this always been a feature and i never noticed?

It was a feature. It was nerfed quite awhile bcack.

It doesn't work anymore.

Yes it has always been. One more thing: Damaging smite doesnt stop recall either :)

The last .25 seconds of a recall won't stop it (I think I have the right timing). Shield will not stop recalls as far as I'm aware. Except spell shield where no damage at all is inflicted. But that would require a Morgana spell shielding a team mate and the spell not doing enough damage to break the shield. (i'm not even sure if this lets the recall through, but it makes sense it would)
