Should casual players play ranked?

Greetings,

  • Recently I decided to que into ranked which I rarely do and I found a pattern. Most the games I played there were multiple people tilting or feeding and being toxic by blaming. It seems to be far more common in ranked than in the norm games I play, and it lead to losses in the games where I had such players on my team. As a casual player who doesn't have time to grind game after game this leads me to be very discouraged and not wanting to play. Since every loss takes my rank down further and losing a few makes me feel unsure that i can win again. So I think I am not going to play ranked anymore but do you fellow players think that casuals should play ranked? It just seems like people are far more likely to be toxic or to give up after one mistake than in the norms I play. And this can lead to tilting yourself since you don't have the time/opportunity to grind games and climb back up. It just seems to me like ranked is for people who have hours upon hours if they want to rank up. Maybe its just the experience I have had but ranked just doesn't seem like a friendly place for casual gamers who don't have time to grind.

ranked is competitive game play...casual and competitive are opposites of each other

A better question is: why would the casual player even want to play ranked? If you're a casual player who is just playing to have fun and chill out, why would you want to play ranked?

I played ranked because it seems like everyone on my friends list and my brother who I am roommates with tell me I need to play ranked. But after playing I don't get why they would want me to play. And I have yet to have fun in ranked. I just wondered what the league communities view on it was in general.

Let me go ahead and fix a misconception for you then:

You don't need to play ranked. There is literally no reason it is necessary to do so to play the game.

Do whatever you personally enjoy.

Should casual players play ranked?

Nope.

lol in my experience ranked is more toxic then normals. ESPECIALLY if you get a guy who is doing his Fad five to promote to the next five steps. I used to play ranked every season just trying to get better and earn the cool end of year rewards and stuff. finally I just said frell it. ranked is not worth trying if you a casual gamer. me I am far from casual but at the same time I rather dislike the current mentality of the players in ranked.

funny part is when Ranked players stop doing ranked after grinding a week or what ever and then go into normals then proceed to tell the unranked casual players. "I dont take advice from unranked lossers." or "Get ranked or uninstall." here is some advice about playing league if you ranked player people lots of people have stopped playing ranked that used to be S1 S2 and S3 Diamond level players.

frankly I am only posting this cause I have had a recent bad match that involved a ranked player who could not identify what a certain lane comp was. you can see I was the sivir and my support his friend and mine by the by was having connection issues. the sad part was that it was visibly choreographed to the enemy bot lane. any way thing is they new they could bully and keep me back cause I had no help and they where and Annie Brand bot lane. this is known commonly as a kill lane that makes dives on solo champions easy and so on. The top lane AkA the teemo player you can find his name in the match I will share after this top lane kept calling the enemy bot lane a double support lane not looking at the enemies builds. best part is get this he has never heard of a kill lane and is a "gold" player my guess he is ranked gold only cause he pays some one to play his account up to gold.

Here is the match http://matchhistory.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/#match-details/NA1/1963046860/49741043?tab=overview

Feel free to take down any info you might find helpful to you in the long run. also if you a ranked player in a casual match does not mean you should drop the level of play you bring to a match do as you normally do examine what is going on, take stock of the teams over all condition on both sides, and most of all dont be the back end of a donkey that says to casual players "get ranked or get frelled."

You make a good point. Its has been my experience that people who are ranked often look down on people who are not or flame them if they try to give advice during game because they aren't high elo. Never mind that I often see plat and diamond players in my games but I guess I suck and its a glitch. I think that ranked is for people who have time to grind matches, just wish there wasn't such a skewed perception of a players skill if they don't have time to climb ranked.

Ranked is for testing your skill against other people who want to do the same if you gonna do bad but not mean it i can take that but if your gonna surrender just because you didn't snowball especially when people picking late game teams saying its a waste of your time just want to get to the next one. you most likely gonna stay bronze and keep the rest of us there with you or go back to bronze dragging us down with you.

I don't think I have ever voted yes to a ff in ranked. But I have had team mates that were so bad or toxic it made me want to.

i dont even acknoldge the surrender box when it pops up

Casuals plz GTFO of ranked and stop ruining it for those of us who want to climb. Gnar

I think you missed the point of my message or are just being troll. But being casual doesn't mean you do bad or ruin it. My point is that there seems to be an expectation that everyone should play ranked from my experience. And because of this it can be quite a negative experience because you deal with tilted people who throw the game and can never climb because you don't have the time/opportunity to climb.

I don't see any difference between ranked and norms.

Clint Orris2 votes

Just like there is no difference between casual basketball games and professional basketball games right?

disregardable1 votes

Yup, not trying ruins the fun. Pretty unlikely that you'd get 2 full teams of professional basketball players together to play a casual game for fun, though.

Clint Orris2 votes

Bout you wouldn't want to be the one to have 2 or 3 "casuals" in your game correct? Also, Ranked is not casual and it is not for fun.

disregardable1 votes

Of course it's for fun, it's a game. A skillful game, but a game nonetheless.

Clint Orris3 votes

Nobody goes into a solo que, and expecting to have the time of their lives. It's not fun having that toxic player on your team, or that "first time cait lol" player and watching your score suffer because of that and riot's backward ass system.

Tell me the last time you had a game where it wasn't completely one sided. When both teams were actually good and you all depended on each other to perform to the best of your abilities? Win or lose.

Yup, not trying ruins the fun.

And...looking over my match history, it's been more than 2 weeks. Probably not once this month. More a problem with my skill level than the game.

its not that it isnt for fun but fun. but its for a challenge some people find challenges fun but most people with in the past year just quit when they it doesnt go their way from start to finish

what part of rank makes you think it is for casuals?

l Sexy Yordle l1 votes

I don't know. I had people tell me to play ranked and I am just going from my experience. I have played probably less than 100 games of ranked between my two accounts and ended up in silver in both.

Play ranked if you want to play ranked, enough said. If you're casual but enjoy having something to work towards, then sure, play ranked. If you're just playing ranked because everyone else is or you think you should, then don't. There's no obligation either way. You be you.
