Concerns regarding the Rune & Mastery Changes

I recently watched the video about the upcoming rune changes and am concerned that myself, along with a certain subset of the playerbase, will feel slighted by this change.

In comparison to my friends I play with, I invested a VERY large portion of my IP into runes and masteries. I have had 20 pages for a while now, and all the runes I'd ever need for any number of champion builds. As a result, my champion pool is very lacking compared to my friends. Most of the friends with whom I've played for 4 years have all of the champions and I have only 58% (79/136).

These changes to the runes nullify my ~130,420 IP investment (and an additional 2,600 RP-5,200RP I spent on pages), and leave me with significantly less champions than similar players who chose to invest their IP in champions. This significant investment of IP represents thousands of games of league of legends (thousands of hours) and would be very disappointing to have disappear.

I feel that compensation for cost of investment in runes is warranted. Purchasing the missing 57 champs with RP would still cost me 245,100 IP, so I still would not have all the champions, but it would put me well on my way towards that goal.

My intention is not to "get things for free" (my RP investment of $495 over the course of the past 4 years is a testament to that), but I feel a little cheated having my 130,420 IP+2,600 RP~5,200RP investment effectively removed from the game.

I did see the reddit thread last year talking about rewarding players with cosmetic items for their IP investment, but this is not a solution that appeals to me. There is also the issue with the removal of rune pages, on which I spent somewhere from 2,600 to 5,200RP.

I've attached tables from which I calculated my total estimated expenditure on runes and rune pages, as well as one from which I calculated the total IP required to purchase the remaining champions on my account.

I have a great love for this game and hope that Riot will be able to properly reward players for their investment in the old runes system.

Riot already have compensation as a thing they will be doing, but at this time we don't know what it will be. If feel no matter what it is though, a lot of players are going to mindlessly complain if they don't get a 100% refund.

Right, I know that they are planning on compensating players, but 5 skin shards (or even skins) and a special volibear skin (I don't even own Volibear) is much less valuable to me than a bunch of IP with which I can buy the remaining champions I am missing. Feels bad investing so much into Runes and then getting some skins instead of fleshing out my champion pool.

Who said anything about skin shards?
