With merit: A desirable Akali.

Akali is iconic for her high risk kit: R reset. That's why players passionately loved playing Akali. But at the state she is in, her gameplay is just incoherent.

Currently her winrate is 42% and a 10% buff on her Q is just illogical.

Her role as an assassin to secure takedowns is unreliable and staying relevant as the game progresses is absent.

Through the consistent nerfs received, it is reasonable to return this mechanic:

A change with merit. Return the R reset.

R reset on the first dash only. The second dash does not get a reset.

What will this achieve?

  • allow rewarding opportunities to catching enemies out of position.
  • increases roam dominance.
  • less underwhelming.

I'm not implying to return the reset function exactly as the pre rework akali however, modifiying to fit into the current league is what will make it viable.

This change is the item missing from what Akali is know for.

Edit

Reset applies if Akali gets the takedown and assists don't get the reset.

Reset activates only through the execution takedown (second dash of r) Reset is only available to the first dash.

After the execution dash, the whole cooldown is applied. Dash 1, 2

After the activation, the reset dash is able to reset itself after a takedown with a delay.

The reset will go on full cooldown ( the whole ability ie level 1 R is 120 sec.) if there is no take down by Akali.

The reset will be unavailable if there isn't a take down on the second dash

The R reset mechanic on the first dash is activated only through execution.

I don't want to put damage numbers but the reset dash can have no damage or less damage.

Reset dash only useable to targets. Not a free dash

If this came with the targeted version of the dash the devs were testing, then I'd be all for it. A resetting, AoE stun that doubles as an escape would not be healthy on an assassin, but if it was single-target, I could see it being a fun tool for her. The targeted version is engage-only, so Akali couldn't use it to back up, then reengage when she gets an assist.

The problem I see with this is: what if you wanted the execute dash, but then the person you engaged on died, and your stun dash got reset? The recast timer would also need to get lowered, like they were testing.

Are you thinking that she would get a full reset, i.e., if she gets a kill during the recast timer, she just gets her cooldown back, or would there be a limited window to recast the R1? The former would be really strong and would probably need power taken from elsewhere to justify it. Being able to engage with the stun, get a kill without the R2, and just have it ready for them again when they come back to lane would be insane. A timer for the recast would be a lot easier to balance. She would be able to get a bunch of resets in teamfights and skirmishes, but after the fight, it would go on cooldown as normal.

bringing back an part of pre-rework Akali will give some player additional familiarity to play with. but this means adding another part to Akali's kit, More mechanics are very difficult to balance out due to their individual impact on a champs's kit, this leaves more simple champ like Garen to be more easily balanced: you can just change some numbers and viola!

Akali and Irelia after their reworks however had allot of tools crammed into their kits: for Akali it was true stealth + heals + stun on an assassins (riot please... we went over this with season 1 Evelynn) whilst irelia had the shield-breaker passive, total DMG reduction, and massive AOE disarm. this left these 2 champs with FAR too much power in their kit alongside their regular (already high) power due to mobility / damage output.

honestly riot should be looking to make a base kit balanced instead of adding heals / slows / shield-breaking to kit's as the more tools a champion possesses the more desirable they become for HIGH ELO / pro-play. Not only that those parts of the kit are often completely unnecessary and only remove counterplay.

That's all.
