How is Shen atm?

Well i just used shen for the first time in a very long time and right now he's still pretty bad early game. You can't really do anything unless the other player is like bad... or maybe im just bad at shen. He only has like 1 source of damage which is his Q really.. and for combos, he really doesn't have any good combos outside teamfights. You can't really beat anyone 1 v 1, till later on in the game. And when you're actually going all-in in a 1 v 1, you end up running low on energy to Q again, once i again his Q is his only source of damage... and without it you can't do anything other than tank it out and auto attack.

Here are my suggestions to make Shen the legend he used to be again... Just my opinions.

  1. Increase his attack speed a little maybe?
  2. Increase his energy?
  3. Reduce the energy cost on his abilities?

He only has 200 energy, i mean q > w > e > q? won't happen because you have run out of energy. You either have to stop, and auto attack and WAIT till your energy comes up or run back. And if you're caught off with a gank when you go all in, you won't be fast enough to get away because he is pretty damn slow early on and you most likely won't have enough energy to dash away..

Shen is really not that good of a top laner right now till group fights and even then, if people don't focus you.. you're useless as a tank. And if you can't do anything as a tank, his low amount of damage output doesn't help that much either. What do you guys think?

My only problem with Shen's lane is that its boring... He has no skill shots, kill potential, and is easily bullied by champs like Renekton.

My rough example of what I think Shen could look like that is thematic as both a ninja, a tank, and as the Eye of Twilight.

As for laning, he does decently okay. He is outclassed by basically any other champion that can go top imo, though, in almost all phases of the game. Laning phase, he should be able to win against his opponent at SOME point in all matchups. If he can bully early on, he has to snowball his lane by keeping them behind. If he can GET bullied early one, usually after your first armor/mr item(depending on which you need), you can sustain their damage well enough to be able to outsustain them in lane and bully them out that way. So overall he does okay, just that if the enemy top laner has TP, and almost ALL will take it, they will most likely have a greater impact in the teamfight then he will.

I still feel that what killed him was the TP change. When they reduced the CD on it everyone started taking it top. I'm not saying it was bad this happened, but I feel it was bad for Shen, since he lost one of his actual strengths that was his. Also his ultimate has the problem that if his ult target dies, the channel will stop and he won't come through. At least with TP you're GUARANTEED to go through unless you get stopped by CC or die.

Good news is Riot said that they have plans to buff him (http://www.surrenderat20.net/2015/03/red-post-collection-champion-design-and.html) Yeah, but his laning is not that interesting. He is hard to kill, but he never gets kills either, so yeah, not that fun. He is good later on tho, but can hardly wait for the buffs

The old adage - "Shen loses lane and wins the game". A good Shen will not win his lane, but won't lose it either. Shen's late game requires a competent team, as he initiates and soaks like a boss, but your team needs damage as he isn't in a good place if you build damage.

so basicly shen is useless if your team is not that great. Because yeah he's a tank and pretty much unkillable, that's if your team knows what they're doing. Im scared to use him anymore because i know i will eventually come up with a team like that and not be able to do anything about it. That's what bothers me. :/

Eh, Shen is alright. I feel like he's one of those champions where assists matter more than kills. Goal is to just survive in lane really, and check the map for people to ult.

I played a match as him. Not great, not bad.
