What's Wrong with League of Legends?
Hi everyone. I am Notsofat I currently main Mid/Support I am not a very high Elo player (P5 in Season 7, Peaked G2 in Season 8) I wanted to talk about the current state of League in its present form.
1st Issue: The Preseason Itself
-------------------------------------------------------------------_-
I know that most people don't like the preseason, and I don't quite fancy it either. Turret Plating is by far one of the most controversial aspects of the game. I get the point of it, and I understand what Riot is trying to go for. However, the amount of gold a person gets per plate (160g) stacking up to 5 times (800g) + Destroying a turret (50g to everyone) + First turret possibility (150g). You're getting more gold for playing a lane bully/split-pusher champ than one who plays passively and scales. What makes it even harder for scaling champions is that they don't have any time to scale. Since games close out between 15-35 minutes, it's hard for some to get going. Another big issue for me was that Riot trimmed the timing of Epic Monsters (Elder Dragon, Elemental Drakes, and Baron Nashor). This makes contesting the buffs even harder for the team behind in gold, as you either give up the buff or risk the game by trying to fight the other team who has the gold advantage. To try and compensate for this, they created the comeback system, which enables the opposing team to try and continue playing to win. I like it, but I think maybe decreasing the gold would help balance it; as those who are on a huge killing spree can lose up to 1,000 gold from one bad teamfight or being caught out. The comeback system conflicts with the minion update however, where minions are given higher movement speed to help teams close out a game.
_* Does Riot want to inspire fast paced games with huge skirmishes, early/mid dominant champions, turret plating gold, epic monster
timing, and the minion update? Or
- inspire slower, back and forth style games with a longer laning phase and the comeback system? _
2nd Issue: The Champions -------------------------------------------------------------------_- Tanks were strong for a few patches between Season 7 - 8, but then died out since they get shredded by all kinds of armor/magic pen (Darius E, Kai'sa Passive, Kayle Passive, Ahri E, Trundle R, etc.), including items (Guinsoo's, Black Cleaver, BOTRK, Lethality items). This means that tanks are not as useful as high damage + cc champions, which bumps them out of the meta for this period of time. In the Jungle, AD/AP Bruisers/Fighters/Assassins are dominating the game as of right now (Graves, Xin, Yi, Camille, Nidalee) due to their early skirmishing and/or midgame powerspike. Mid seems to be doing ok, as it only houses Akali (which could use some tuning), but nothing out of the ordinary. I personally thought the Lissandra changes would tank her winrate, but I think if you can manage her mana properly, she is incredible in teamfights. In the botlane, there isn't much that is necessarily bad (besides Brand because of his passive damage being way too high for a "support"). I like the changes onto Pyke as well, but I've seen a lot of people be genuinely disgusted with the character because he is way too strong. Can someone reply to me on why they think he's really good? I'm not too sure. Overall, I don't necessarily see a problem with most of the champions. I think, and what most people have been complaining about, is what my next topic is about.
3rd Issue: The Runes -------------------------------------------------------------------_- I started playing right after Season 5, beginning of Season 6. I never knew the old old rune system well, and I played with the old rune system for only a year. From what I can remember, it was very grindy, and you had to put in a lot of time to get those tier 3s. In season 7, the Runes Reforged concept was pretty cool, and I liked the way Riot was taking it. However, in Season 8 and into the preseason of Season 9, it hasn't been doing too well. I'll get the big one out of the way. DARK HARVEST IS TOO BROKEN. There. Happy? Anyways, I think the reason why champions such as Karthus, Miss Fortune, Graves, Kha'Zix, Rengar, Pyke, literally anyone who does a lot of burst damage, and others are seen as "too dominant" and "ruining the meta". I think the concept of having a rune give free damage just by doing executive damage or even damage in general to a target under 50% is a little too overbearing. I think it should be replaced with another burst rune, or even take away the stack potential and have it scale with level (even though that would probably replace electrocute, huh?) Im not too sure, but I think there are better possibilities with a new rune. Continuing with how I said games end at 15-35 minutes now, there is virtually no point in taking runes such as Eyeball Collection, Overgrowth, and Gathering Storm. There are some rare cases where they are viable, and I'm not saying they are useless. However, they don't have the potential in this current state of league to be very good. I don't think there's much else to cover for runes, but if you want to discuss runes in the comments be free to :D
4th Issue: The Skins -------------------------------------------------------------------_- Skins are essential for a free to play game to get money off of microtransactions, especially one like LoL. However, I understand people's complaints that champions such as Lux get all of the skins, while others such as Ivern get none. It's sad for someone to main a champion, devote a lot of time to that champion, and only be able to show off their release skin because THEY HAVE NO OTHER SKIN. But, with time and patience, they will get the skin they deserve. It's hard to come up with an idea for a skin, design it, code it, iron out all the bugs, and still make it look good. Sometimes though, you don't get what you want in life, and that's ok too. But I promise you that Riot does not forget champions who have no skin. Maybe their skin team doesn't have an idea in mind yet? Or they haven't gotten around to making it yet? Don't worry, your time will come :)
That's all I have. Thank you for reading! I know it's not that good coming from a low Elo player, but I appreciate it. Please criticize or comment how I can do better for the next time I decide to post. Thank you :D
