That's pretty much where most players ended up in Silver and below from season 6. I got placed there. I think it factors in your previous season and other playing factors beyond just the ten measured games.

The games are literally pointless.

First time in ranked I was like 3/10 or something and got Silver 5 or 4. Next season I was maybe 5/10 and got Bronze 4.

So many stories of everyone being pushed nearly 5 divisions/1 tier down. There is no point in even trying in placements, especially if you were silver/bronze.

they said before the season started that everyone should expect to be much lower than they think they should be.

Because provisionals are literally a waste of time. They just drop you 3-5 tiers below what your highest rank was last season.

If this is your first time in ranked, I think it tries to place you a little more generously based on who you played with in normals.

I think you're right. My first ranked season, I placed silver (but I finished my provisional games like three days after season ended lol). Season 6, I got bronze placement. This season I got bronze placement even though I was silver in Season 6.
