Rylai's Crystal Scepter Does Not Work On Teemo's (E) Toxic Shot. Why?

Michikun··4 votes·6,819 views

Teemo's (E) Toxic Shot works in two ways.

  1. Applies an on-hit magic damage based on AP (scales)
  2. Applies a DOT (Damage Over Time) effect that lasts for 4 seconds.

Rylai's Crystal Scepter

  • 400 Health
  • 100 Ability Power
  • Unique Passive: Damaging Spells and Abilities apply a Movement Speed reduction to enemies based on the spell type:
    • Single Target: 40% reduction for 1.5 seconds.
    • Area of Effect: 40% reduction for 1 seconds.
    • Damage over Time or Multi-hit: 20% reduction for 1 seconds.
    • Summoned Minions: 20% reduction for 1 seconds.

Jax's (R) Grandmaster's Might applies the Rylai's Crystal Scepter effect on every third auto.

Anything that buffs that cancer ridden filth is a taboo.

its not a damaging spell. its an added on hit effect on auto attacks. it works with his q and his shrooms.

Jax's (R) Grandmaster's Might applies the Rylai's Crystal Scepter effect on every third auto. His ultimate is a damaging spell?

got a link for that?

Who needs a link when I legitimately just tried it out just now in normals and won. It does work. http://www.lolking.net/summoner/na/28695133#matches

are you sure that wasnt just his q?

I am positive. All I have to do is buy Rylai's on Jax and just sit there and auto attack the Golems without using any other abilities. 100% certain it works. It even shows the particle effects of Rylai's.

It works on Kayle's E, too.

Also on Kass' OnHit back when he had an activatable magic damage buff before they gave him that attack reset.

In short, Riot is pretty inconsistent with how they apply spell effects to OnHit abilities.

I would say just make all OnHit magic damage buffs count as spell effects for the purpose of spellvamp and Rylai's. If it makes Teemo too strong, Riot can nerf his fuzzy ass.

Grandmaster's Might is a self-buff ability that passive grants Jax an on-hit effect on all his basic attacks. Applies spell effects as a single target ability. Spell vamp is fully applied. Rylai's Crystal Scepter will apply a 40% slow for 1.5 seconds.

This is the difference between "spell" damage and "magic" damage. It's confusing I know, but it simply means you have to use an actual ability to proc the slow. A constant auto attack augment does not. It's the same reason stacking Wit's End or nashor's tooth + Rylai's doesn't give you an AP version of Frozen Mallet.

Jax's (R) Grandmaster's Might applies the Rylai's Crystal Scepter effect on every third auto. Can you explain that?

Crett2 votes

Yeah. Jax's ultimate is one of the few on-hit effects that even applies spell effects instead of just being plain magic damage. For all intents and purposes, every third hit damages the way a spell would. This probably is because he is a really old champion, and Riot doesn't hate AP Jax.

It comes down to how the line Riot has drawn in terms of damage. In that case they probably considered damage requiring multiple hits crosses the line as "ability" damage. Or it could simply be a unique case, depending on if other multi-hit magic damage abilities like Gnar E or Vi W would do the same.

Because it would make Teemo broken? If you want an on-hit slow item that makes your attacks do more damage, gives them a slow, and gives you alot of health, build frozen mallet.

They nerfed his mushroom ultimate duration in half, his win-to-lose ratio is dramatically decreasing - how would this item alone make him broken? He needs something to slow down enemies because of how squishy he is, not some useless ultimate that doesn't even activate as soon as you put it down.

If you want Teemo to be good, ask Riot for a rework, or a different kit. As it stands now, Riot's pussyfooting around the issue that is Teemo, and it bother's the crap out of me. He's not fun to play against, he brings nothing really meaningful to the team besides damage and a slow (Mundo?) I guess you could claim his blind is important, and it sorta is. But other than that, what's Teemo doing for a team that another champion couldn't do way better? You might as well put a Teemo Hat on Cassi and send her top. She already has mid covered.

Scrub. Map control is Teemo's thing. Even more because people don't buy (upgraded) red trinkets. What is a ward right?

Played right, which is 40% CDR and Liandry's rush, Teemo will control the map. One shrooms blows squishies to 50%. People 2nd guess when entering your jungle.

And the one thing that IS Teemo, they nerfed, lmao. His Q, W, E are irrelevant. Teemo is shrooms.

I don't know how healthy it can be for a champion to be defined by a single ability on their kit. If anything, I feel like all the abilities on a kit should play a part in whether or not the champion wins lane, or game.

His Q, W, E are nothing special. He damages like an ADC damages, so what. The only thing that is different in Teemo, the only thing he brings to the table, for the team, is the shrooms with its map control. Otherwise he's just a strong auto attacker? Wow, where have we seen that already. YAAAAWN

The W actually synergizes when I think about it now. It's good for faster/efficient shroom placing. So it doesn't take that long going around.

An idea for his E would be mark the enemy to enhance enemies poisoned by his ultimate. I dunno, Idc much about teemo. Laning phase is the boring part I have to go through to get to his ultimate basically.

RCS not triggering from an on-hit effect (ex. Teemo's E) is the norm. Jax's R is a rare exception to that norm.

Why does Jax get nice things and Teemo doesn't? Are you new, here? Riot, and roughly half the community, vehemently hates Satan Teemo (while the other roughly half of the community worship him).

Teemo needs a rework. A full-scale, all-ability rework. And until he gets one (Riot currently has no plans to give him one, and has openly stated their opinion that the community would not accept one), he will not be allowed to have nice things unless, like his most recent changes, they come with even greater punishment for his mere existence.
