Demotion

Can someone help me understand the thinking behind demotion in Ranked play. I think im an alright league player. my ranking doesnt show it however. This season they started me in Bronze 1. I flew all the way up to Silver 1 and got to my promos for Gold... got bad teammates of course, and since i dont play the dumb hyper carries like rengo and whatnot... I lost and continued to fall back to S3. Just recently made it back to S1. Flip flopped a few games. won/lost/won. then at 19 points. I lost two in a row and got demoted.... How the hell is this a good system? pisses me right off.
