If you die does it go away?

Yesterday I had the herald buff as fiora and while I was spawning it I got stunned. The animation stopped and I proceeded to kill the person who stunned me. When I turned back to look, the herald was gone. It never spawned and the buff was gone. Is that a bug or meant to happen? Thanks!
