Why do you still play league?

After many many games I've reached a point where I'm thinking about quitting. here my reasoning

  • the game mechanics are so simple there is nothing to learn +400 games.
  • Ranked is full of people who make the game much less fun.
  • Normal games are full of afkers.
  • The rank system is Objectively worse then Elo
  • Rito seems to be unable to make any real balance changes with out makes 3 more champs instabans.
  • If someone starts shit talking me if i respond I have to be in fear of a ban.
  • The lore was killed a while a good under the guise of changing if for the better.
  • Rito has forgotten about runes completely but they are still here as bloat.
  • ect.

The only thing i still enjoy about LOL are the new skins and animations. And that the so vary far removed from the game play.

So whats your reasoning for still playing past 400 games? maybe it'll inspire me to keep going.

p.s I was unsure what board this should go under as there is no GD.

In a way it could be best compaired with highschool sports

Why do people put several hours after school into somethign that will in most cases have little to no real payoff.

In reality Cross country and track were an escape for me in high school that also allowed me to push myself and challenge myself. All I have to show for it is a 4:54 mile a 10:42 and a 17:47 5k and a 1:25:44 half marathon but it did give me some kind of motivation to actually stay in school. Was it enjoyable al lthe time? I would say no but it was something to work towards.

I guess the best explanation of league for many is an escape from other parts of life much like Running became an escape from other things while I was in high school.

The irony is that now I sometimes just want to escape league after 4 years of playing. I just haven't figured out how best to go about it.

For me, I have friends irl who play it and it's fun. They don't really care about rank or any thing really. If you find the game to be unfun, then you should play some thing else. There are downsides to this game but you can go with out them. If you really want to play League then do the following.

  1. Find friends
  2. Play aram or normals and just have fun

I've been through a little more than 2000 games on Summoner's rift (counting losses). I'm not really sure what keeps bringing me back anymore. I tried to rationalize that it was having fun with my friends, but they seem to be disappearing fast. Then I rationalized that if I'm still playing, it must be fun, but I can't really find as much enjoyment in it, what with the AFKers that run rampant, trolls who feed and then leave, players who saw a Diamond player play a champion and then say to themselves "I can do that" but are so out of their depth that they just ruin the game for their team mates.

I suffered a deep blow during patch 5.16. As a morde main who recognized that Morde was in a bad spot design-wise, I was waiting for years for Mordekaiser's rework. I dreamed of a shiny new model, brand new set of VFX, and a new voice over, with a new kit to match that would make him amazing to play, but not unfun to play against. Unfortunately, he got none of those. The only thing remotely nice looking anymore about his VFX is his E and the ghosts he can control. Everything else looks entirely half-assed. Actually, you could use that to describe his new kit, too. Half-assed. It's boring to play against, feels shitty to win against and shittier to lose against. Shitty to play.

Another thing that tries my patience is the lack of communication between Riot and it's playerbase when it comes to champion design or balance. The PBE is a fucking joke, full of people who got their accounts because they applied fast enough for one and don't actually know how to give feedback that makes sense on any sort of level, or applied for one just to troll and get to play the skins for free. I watched an entire Mordekaiser feedback thread get ignored by the person who started it. 98% of it was negative feedback, and the creator of said thread ignored all of it. I understand that live is a better test realm than PBE is, but don't you fucking dare insult me by calling it a feedback thread if you're just going to ignore it entirely.

"Poppy's rework is up next". I hear it every month on Surrender@20. I hope every patch that we'll get SOME kind of detail besides "Oh yeah, it's definitely the next rework". How long is it going to take? Stop telling me it's coming and give me some damn information! Percentages! From 1% to 100%, how close is it to being done? Why is that too revealing?I mean if Poppy's rework is going to take this long, I'm DREADING the wait for Taric's.

I don't know what keeps me coming back to this game. I can't honestly answer that question, considering all of the things that piss me off about it. All I know is that I'm drawn to it, and I WANT to keep playing. Maybe it's some dim hope that maybe things will pick up again, or that I'll meet new friends who enjoy the game too, or that certainlyT will be banned from making champions or working on them in the future. In any case, there's something about the game I just find irresistible.

I've gotten through 2000 games roughly on Summoner's rift. Here's to 2000 more
