Because somehow, it makes sense to match a lvl 27 against plats and dias who actually have runes and a large champion pool. (and I'm nowhere near plat-dia on my main)

yes it does. It detected you're a smurf and put you with people around the same MMR as you normally are.
It's fairly common for smurfs to get boosted to high range normals they'd otherwise wouldn't be in as they approach level 30.
It's like Karma. For smurfing.
Just went 1/12 against a diamond Yasuo the last 2nd game(Look at my match history if you don't believe me). Fun stuff, especially when your team tells you how much you suck :/
