The plat jg was que'd with teemo and we were all silver/bronze with no one even reaching plat. Normals matchmaking isn't balanced at all. I did fairly well but the fact that the plat had more jg knowledge led to our Jax falling behind and Darius getting camped because of the duo. I know ranked and normal MMR is completely different but still should be something to even it out.

That is nothing, League can (and will) throw much crazier matchups on you. Just give it time.
Sometime high-elo players are just duo-Q'd with a lower elo friend. Sadly they know this and often pick some insane hypercarry or lanebully to torture the other team. These are the moments that REALLY stick out to you.
I particularly hate when the MMR is spread to opposite sides of the map, particularly if there's a high elo player toplane vs a lower elo player. Drawing the jungler up there, who can often barely help, you lose early-game pressure bot. Either your bot are gods too or the 2v3 there will take its toll.
Oh and don't try 5-man premades, the matchmaking just implodes for those.
