Varus Keystone

Recently I've been seeing a lot more Varus in ranked for some reason. I don't know why. But that's not my problem. My problem is the fact that they all seem to be taking Warlords Bloodlust as their keystone. Don't fucking know why. Both of the other keystones in that tree are better in my opinion.

First Varus barely autos, he's more of an ability based champion like Ezreal, so he won't be making full use of the Warlords because his abilities don't even apply on hit affects. So why take it? Fervor in my opinion is better if you even are autoing because with the new Fervor granting you flat AD it'll help your autos as well as your abilities, so why not take that? Even Deathfire's Touch seems like a better option, it's what you used to take on Varus (that or Thunderlords or Stormraiders) on mid Varus. Because of the extra bleed benefited heavily from the AD heavy build (instead of AD/AS).

Anyways sorry for the, rant. Please give me your opinions, or if you know why please tell me because it doesn't seem to make sense to me.

Thanks a lot, Your input is very much appreciated.

I stopped reading when you said varus barely auto attacks, they butchered armor pen and changed his passive to scale harder with attack speed.

He's favoring more auto attacks now than ever before, the old AD items favored raw damage and pure armor pen to play him more skill based than auto but that is a thing of the past.

Thank you, I think that's the point I was missing

Fervor is your best option. I used to play him alot but after patch 6.24 I can't play him....they nerfed him inadvertently with changing of fervor or nerfing it from on hit to flat ad....then they nerfed flat armor pent ration to lethality which pretty much made his casting build useless so with that you still can build hybrid on hit its just not as effective due to the loss in power because fervor lost the on hit damage . So with that fervor is your best option and build wise take scaling ap glyphs and 2 attack speed quints and flat or scaling ad marks and 1 scaling or flat ad quint. Build should be runaans berserker greaves rapid fire ie or essence reaver pick 1 . Rage blade and last item it doesn't matter . This is the best way to build him if your not building on hit. Fervor is the only option ... since he is immobile warlords isn't effective and there no reason to take thunder lords or death fire

In the wake of the armor pen change to lethality, Riot decided to boost Varus' auto based builds as he suffered heavily with the change. With his passive buff, his on-hit and crit builds caused his popularity to soar - both among pro players and other ranked players. With the recent change to fervor, extended trades were no longer favorable to Varus and for the majority of other marksmen, therefore Warlord's became the favored keystone. In short, his AP, Hybrid, and Crit builds all became favorable as he was shifted into an ADC playstyle. Warlord's is fantastic for Varus as by himself, he's already a fantastic duelist in 1v1, and aside from bringing blunt damage, brings a massive team-fighting tool in the form of his ultimate.

As for the reason for Warlord's, Varus fares better in trades because of his above average range and his duelist play-style when using an on-hit / auto attack build. His passive also allows him to regain a decent chunk of HP per minion with WB. When forcing trades during the Living Vengeance passive active, Varus can easily 100-0 an enemy champion as he can apply both his stacks and regain HP from auto-ing his lane opponents, in essence healing himself while dealing crippling damage to the enemy laner. With item combinations such as item 3124 + item 3115 or item 3124 +item 3085, Varus can easily cripple the enemy laners when coupled with his passive. As such, he can hit 2.0 attack speed incredibly early with just a couple of items, so with these effects active, Varus can easily trade, heal, and kill his lane opponent without too much difficulty.
