Got a Chroma from the event which I paid Riot for (Allah forgive me). I go to try it in-game and its not selectable. Whats the deal? I could've used those 300 point towards champion shards or blue essence. Now I just feel cheated out of my hard work.

A note here -the Prestiges are not Chromas even though they seem like Chromas. They are in fact skins unto themselves rather than gold recolors.
But yes, to use a chroma you need the original skin.
I think you can even buy chromas first without the skin. I dont think they should allow that.

Prestige skins are variants, just like the pajama guardian skins etc
You can't buy normal chromas without owning the skin But you can buy the event chromas without owning the skin because they'll be available for a short amount of time and most of them will never come back. So riot allows you to buy the chroma without having the skin so that you can buy the skin later etc and use the chroma then. Because it would feel pretty bad to not be able to get the chroma you reaaaallyyyy like just because you aren't able to buy the skin during the event but 100% know that you'll buy it later So it makes perfect sense to be able to buy the event chromas without having the skin

Sukishoo1 votesAs that image says "This Chroma was released as a Loot Exclusive" it doesn't make it any different from any other Chroma in the game. All you did was, instead of getting it from the normal store, you used Event Tokens to Unlock it. You still need the Skin that goes with the Chroma (Dawnbringer Riven in this case) in order to use said Chroma.
Sukishoo2 votesIt's not selectable because you have to own the skin to use the chroma. It has always been like this. They allow people to unlock the chromas during events because they are often limited or do not return for a few years. It's different from Chromas in the store, where you need to have the skin first before it allows you to pick up the chroma. So you can pick them up now and then buy the skin at a later point in order to use the chroma.

You do know that you can't get chromas from orbs, right? You can only get skins from orbs
And in the original post you talked about a chroma and 300 tokens, which is the cost of an event chroma
So which one is it then?

Chromas, a recolor of a skin: usually unlocked with RP.
Tokens, an items gained during event to unlock special content.
Event Chroma, still a recolor of a skin but unlocked with tokens.
No where does it say in the event information that an Event Chroma comes with the Skin. You still need to purchase any of the skins that relate to these chromas in order to use the chroma.

"Im wrong so shut it all down". You havent even admitted to understanding that a chroma is not a skin, or owned up to your own fault of not understanding. You just came in complaining about how you wasted your money because you didnt know... Despite the fact this has been how chromas have worked since they were released. Have you tried contacting support yet? Or done anything beside postulate about how riot "screwed you over"?
Also... Your argument is along the same lines as someone going in to mcdonalds and complaining that theyre allergic to coffee after ordering and drinking said coffee.

No one misunderstood anything. You were told what happened, and decided to argue with people saying "THATS NOT WHAT I DID" and posted images irrelevant in context to "prove" riot did something wrong or misleading. You created the thread with the sole intention of garnering hate pity because "RIOT DID ME DIRTY". When you realized no one would give you the attention you wanted you demanded the thread be shut down.
Even now you still choose to argue instead of owning up to your mistakes, holding on to your belief that you did nothing wrong. You even chose to continue arguing instead of taking the discussion path i left for you, which proves you came into this with ill intentions.
