Thresh; Melee or Ranged?

Now that we are on to Season six, there have been a lot of changes. Marksmen getting buffed, masteries changing games, and the whole meta being changed to the future season. Now out of all of these changes comes one less noted, Thresh. Before this season Thresh was considered a ranged champ and could use Runaan's hurricane. This season, Thresh cannot buy Runaan's hurricane as it is only for ranged champs, which brings up the question. Is Thresh a melee champ or a ranged champ? After discovering I couldn't buy Runaan's I went to buy a ravenous hydra. After completing the item, I found that the crescent didn't work and the passive didn't proc. I believe if Thresh is a ranged champ, he should be able to use Runaan's. If he considered a ranged champ, he should be able to use ravenous hydra (or titanic hydra if you want). Otherwise if neither can be concluded, Thresh should get his own unique item that helps with minion wave if people want to take him to other roles than support. Either way the question still stands, which attack style does Thresh use?

Thresh is unique. His auto-attack is specifically coded to bypass a lot of the limitations of regular ranged autoattacks (Windwall/Braum shield/etc.) but also gets way less attack speed per point of attack speed.

Unfortunately one of the side effects is that he can't use items like Runaans or Hydra. It's just one of his VERY few counter-balances to the ultra stacked kit he has.
