Is it ok for me to not take this game seriously?

I was having a conversation with a group of friends, we somehow got to the topic of video games. That somehow lead to LOL being in the conversation, I said that I didn't really take it seriously sense I just played it for fun. This personally offended one my my friends and he went off, began saying I wasn't a real gamer cause I wasn't serious and that I shouldn't play it if I don't take it seriously. He got up and stormed off, which would normally be ok if we weren't literally in the middle of class and he just walked out. I asked some of my other friends who weren't there during this whole ordeal who also play LOL if this was perfectly fine, all in all I asked five other people if it was fine. Counting this friend it was six people and three of them thought it was "WRONG AS HELL" in their own words.

So is it ok that I don't take the game seriously or not?

I mean the balance team doesn't, so why does it matter if you don't either?

You can just have fun. Even in ranked. Not taking it seriously has lead to more wins than not for me at least. A calmer mind translates to more fun regardless, and more fun pumps me up to win!

I've noticed that being calm and just having fun helps be win too, so that's why I don't rage when I'm playing games like this.

Yes of course it'd okay not to take ANY game seriously why? Because it's a game, however personal opinion BTW ranked is different its supposed to be competitive so it should be taken seriously

I told them I played against the bots, but they still thought that was meant to be serious? This specific friend is very obnoxious and takes games very seriously even when its something that isn't serious(like a single player game). Like one time my friends and I said it would be awesome if they put Shaggy in Mortal Kombat and he began screaming his head off that it was stupid and wrong...

ranks a joke as is the pros an they only buff nerf to help the pros vs fixing real bugs like if mumu and blitz grab each other at the same time

i don't. i just focus on the game aspect. i dont care about feeders, trolls, inters, ranked, balance, any of that. league is just a game and that is what it will only be.
