Leveling to 30 is an awful experience for everyone

I just finished leveling an alt account to play with friends and the experience was horrendous. Not even for myself, but the other players of the game. I averaged a 75% win rate, peeking at 90% in normal blind picks (per op.gg). It didn't matter how high my win rate seemed to get I always felt I was against newer players. I sucks that there first experiences in League to get steamrolled because a smurf is in there game. Likewise, I've also had several new people on my own team who tend to feed and then spend the rest of the time getting flammed by other players who are also smurfing. Lets not even get into the flamming while leveling a smurf topic. Granted I know in most of my games, I'm playing with more smurfs than actual newbies (especially after about level 10ish), but it doesn't take away from the fact that this is the experience that new players get; steamrolled by smurfs and flammed by smurfs. I don't know how you keep smurfing from happening, but it would seem like lowering the leveling process or starting a mentor program with benefits to those who mentor might be a starting point. League is an unfriendly place...which I'm fine with, but its hard to not recognize the issues the game design currently uses for new players.

Personally, I would rather buy a new account then ever level. Its not an enjoyable experience for most.

Lastly to those wondering why I leveled a second account: I found some friends that are just getting back into the game after a long hiatus and are lower MMR than myself. It would suck for them to get into games and have to lane against people who are at my MMR on my main account.

I actually think it's good as it is to "prevent" smurfs. Leveling is as horrible as you say it is and really most smurfs are people who got their mains banned and still want their league fixes or maybe they just feel the need to be toxic without having their main accounts banned for it in the first place. In general, I do think the arduous process of leveling generally discourages most people from regularly leveling up multiple accounts unless they're smurfing to help out a friend who is new to league, which I can't really argue against because that's the only reason why I even started playing league. If my friends hadn't smurfed to play with me I would have uninstalled and given up before finishing to level up.

I always thought it was funny that smurfs flamed new players... what I always like to point out is that those players are new to the game and are still improving yet the flamers, who are smurfs but usually low elo smurfs, only play because they can't git gud. In my experience, it's the bronze and silver players who will smurf and flame the newbies, higher elo players generally don't want to be associated.

Rito also tends to group most smurfs with other smurfs to help protect these new players too

It's not as horrible as it used to be. They reduced the XP needed for L30 by 50%. I think that was a bad move, personally. Damned smurfs ruin the matchmaker. People bitch at Riot all the time about matchmaking but what the fuck can they really do about it if smurfs are breaking it all the time.
