As a support main I honestly don't understand why some supports don't build sightstone. I don't feel complete until I get it. It's my best friend and I want a sightstone pillow so I can feel safe falling asleep at night :3

Spoofghoul9 votes

damn its so dumb really

if you are going to hurr durr APC support just build item 2301

I build it on midlaners quite often because it gives everything you need, extra gold manaregen some bonus damage a bit of health and most importantly vision

Sightstone is probably the strongest defensive item in the game so if u gunna need defences just buy a sightstone

Does this thread also come paired the threads of: Mid-if your opponent roamed bot either push your lane or follow Adc-learn to last hit for the love of god! Jungle-Stop picking a hyper carry when the team has no tanks! Top- Stop picking into hard counters and auto losing lane!

More problems going on then just supports in this game.

To all assassin players out there. Should you ever find yourself falling behind, find and kill those greedy "supports" that build full damage and disregard utility and vision. Free gold really. Why bother with that lv11 adc and you can literally one shot that lv9 ludens Echo rush Annie support ? She is worth just as much gold. People should start doing this. Maybe that will teach those greedy "supports" to get some vision for the team so that they can spot the sneaky assassins .

This is why i fukin hate lux, nidalee and annie supports. All they do is build full AP with no SS.

Nidalees are the worst. They think laying their traps in the bush and river is enough...and then when the gank comes they turn into cat form and leap away to safety while the adc is getting gang banged.

Jeddy0176 votes

As a guy who plays a lot of support, fuck supports who don't buy a sightstone. I don't care what you're doing, at least buy a sightstone & use it. You can be playing full AP support Zed for all I care as you got the sightstone.

Everytime we have a "support" not buying a sightstone, I'm buying a freaking sightstone myself regardless of what role I'm playing. Someone has to buy a fucking sightstone. Of course if I'm ADC & my support has a problem with that, they can go fuck themselves.

If you have no vision then play safe. It isn't hard. Working around your team's lack of vision is something that teams have to go through on rare occasions. If you're having an issue, tell people to spend 75 gold on a Vision ward, and use trinkets. Not having a Sighstone isn't the END of the world, but it just makes your games harder.

Jeez, Sometimes I forgo Sightstone on Bard if I want to grab Swiftness and roam a bit more before getting vision. You can't dictate how your teammates build, you can only lead them in the right direction. If you sit there, bitch and complain, don't expect them to work with you. " Hey Brand, mind grabbing a Sightstone? The vision we can snag from it would be really good. "

" stfu noob "

Then buy one yourself. It may push your build back a bit but Vision can get you surprise ganks and surprise kills.

Attticus Finch1 votes

Buying pinks isn't always a viable option for non-supports because it's extremely easy to fill all your slots when building items- comparatively supports, who have no real gold income and thus don't/can't rely on items as much, are therefore more suited for buying vision.

There's plenty of logic-hoops one can make for supports not buying a sightstone but at the end of the day it's still a fact that you're fucking your team over and giving an advantage to the enemy by not buying vision.

GarthBrooksIV1 votes

The thing that bothers me the most is that someone would select support without any intentions of fulfilling the role. I know some people select support just because they don't want to wait 3 or 4 minute queues.

Beldair3 votes

And if you start reporting supports, that que time will just increase...

AWildAPKalista5 votes

That's Rito's fault for not reverting Dynamic Queue in spite of the nth complaints, lower revenues and declining viewership. That's Rito's fault for refusing to buff struggling support champs or incentivising support players with higher LP gains/lower LP losses. That's Rito's fault for not giving a shit about their own damned customers and Rito's attempts to kill their own game.

We players aren't to blame, in spite of contrary claims by those same Rito gods that you blindly worship.

Beldair2 votes

Rito can't make ppl play support because it has and will always be an unpopular role...just like healers in WoW or other MMOs are rarer than other classes...

Even in Soloq, que times were astronomical and dodges were very common because person A wants a certain role but Person B already locked in and claimed that role so Person A dodges...

i don't blindly worship anyone.....I state an opinion and if ppl don't like it they can down vote... But don't go saying I blindly worship Riot because I've stated in a few posts where Riot has screwed up.

AWildAPKalista5 votes

Since you continue to insist on not reading my posts, I'm forced to repeat myself: Rito is at fault for not INCENTIVISING players for picking support. As a matter-of-fact, Rito CAN and DO force people to play support, it's called Auto-Fill which they turn on at "slow" times.

Mr Fidori1 votes

That's Rito's fault for not reverting Dynamic Queue

This is not related to Dynamic Queue, but rather how New Champ Select works and how very few people ever want to support.

The position isn't called ward bot. If they help their lane partner survive, farm, and get kills they can play whatever they know how to support with however they wanna support. Obviosly something won't work as well but you never know. Velkoz used to be a troll pick support, but look at him now.

Agree completely and here's a helpful tip while you're at it:

If you see a teammate lock in Sona, you can already assume they're going to refuse to build Sightstone because her core items are 6k in gold. If you don't won't her INTENTIONALLY stealing CS and KSing, I'd highly suggest dodging. I do it myself every time if I haven't already, otherwise I just report them for picking Sona/not buying Sightstone.

Also after a game, look at both supports and report them if they don't have a Sightstone. Riot themselves have repeatedly stated that it is in fact a reportable offense.

Where did Riot state it was reportable?

I don't seem to be able to find that post...

And supports aren't the only ones that need to ward.

Oh look, junglers get a ward smite...maybe they all should get that or be reported...

Oh, top doesn't have tp... Guess we should report...

Oh, they want Garen mid....report for trolling... Oh Garen went 11/2/15 well still report...

Mind you the Garden mid part is just a random point, but do you see my point here....You start reporting Supports for not getting Sightstone and a few things will happen:

Fewer people will play support which means longer ques...

People will start reporting other lanes for whatever kind of excuse they'd want....

Supports will get more toxic which entail makes the entire team and game toxic...

There's a pattern..

Now I am a Support main and always get the ward items but I can also see the kill lane's point of view.

AWildAPKalista5 votes

Just because you can see somebody else's point of view doesn't make it valid. I can see a mass murderer's point of view, yet I still condemn their actions and so does society.

I for one do in fact report top laners with no TP, trolling mid-laners(especially Garens and yes, regardless of score) and I will never condone a player who picks support with the intent of trolling just so they can cheat their way into a shorter queue time. You want a kill lane? You want to carry? Fine, just so long as you build a Sightstone.

Beldair4 votes

Yes. But his comment was Riot stated it was reportable.... I have yet to see that post from Riot...

And some Top laners go ignite or exhaust to help secure their lane...it's called situational gameplay...

Not every match is gonna have the archetypical top tp, mid ignite, jg smite, bot heal, and support exhaust.

Some have variations to that. Which have been proven to work by not only regular players but also the pro's....

And what I'm stating is Norm matches, you know the matches where you are supposed to have some freedom for experimenting...

AWildAPKalista5 votes
  • Taking ignite or exhaust doesn't mean you can't have TP as well. Since you seem to have forgotten, you get 2 summoner spells, not just 1.
  • Mid doesn't need ignite, they're the lane with the most freedom on their spell: TP, exhaust, heal, cleanse, barrier, ghost.
  • Jungle does matter-of-factly need smite, the role doesn't work without smite because, since you seem to be rather uninformed: RITO LOCKED HUNTER'S MACHETE FOR PLAYERS THAT DON'T HAVE SMITE
  • "Bot" is a lane, not a role and yes bot does need heal, but it doesn't have to be the ADC, he can have barrier or cleanse instead and the support take heal.
  • I for one am not fond of exhaust on support except against champs that want to fight, it seems to be low elo players are the only ones who seem to think it's mandatory on support.

How the hell am I supposed to know you're talking about normal matches? Especially when you implied it's ranked with your repeated complaints about queue times. If you're going to post in a thread as a Filthy Casual, at least start all of your posts with, "I am a filthy casual, but I'd like to speak regardless."

Beldair3 votes

And do you know who makes up a majority of League's player base....us "filthy casuals"..

But we know what we are talking about as well..we play long enough to have some experience. Hell my brother has a friend who played since Beta and has seen some poor excuses for sportsmanship...

And que times does not imply ranked...norms have que times too...

If you que up for ADC, you select bot in role selection...

And I'm just stating that not every game is gonna be similar with summoner spells or with items...

If a support doesn't pick up sightstone, then the team needs to play around their lack of vision..

The good news is that your report weight is likely zero because you are using the function for something unintended. Yeah... no, Rito does support the meta. For your information, their report system is actually automated to check if your items, summoner spells, chosen position and various other factors are uncommon. Sorry to burst your bubble, but going off-meta is actually reportable. So much so that they created an automated system to ban people for it so there's less work for their moderators, not that Rito employees actually do any work.

No. Just no.

It is entirely possible to build Sona without her "core" items as a utility support.

AWildAPKalista5 votes

Building Sona without her "core" items has a less-than 28% winrate. She does not work as a champion without either Spellblade or Echo. Hell who am I kidding, Sona just doesn't work as a champion(PERIOD) She is the lowest or 2nd lowest in the entire support class for literally every number on her stats and abilites, she's officially the weakest support in this game.

x R U K A x3 votes

The reason supports don't build sightstone is because most "support" players nowadays think of themselves as an APC, part of the reason why people play Annie, Brand, Vel'Koz, and Veigar "support", and to them sightstone doesn't offer anything good enough for them to want to buy it. Now if Riot made it where sightsone gives some AP then I'm 100% sure people would start buying it. In general most of the warding items are only really good on tank supports like Braum, Leona, and Thresh because they need health to be tanky which they get in spades. The issue is that there aren't any good warding items for AP supports with most of the support items favoring tank supports.

Zane Zephyr1 votes

There is a sightstone item that gives AP. It's just not as strong as FQC is so it's not as popular.

That is not true. More vision is better than none. If the charges of the primary wards are on cool down for the entire team, you only have three wards that can be placed.

Also, I did not excuse myself not to buy one. How about you check match history before you start slandering people? Do you lack the simple intellectual capacity to do so?

Oh no, I'm building Soraka a ward on EUW? Mad?

I build wards on jungles at times. I also do on tanks. I also do on supports. Be more inaccurate with your statements. Assuming does you no justice but making enemies. Thanks.

Also, the people who down voted this are ridiculous. I stand by what I said after building wards as a jungle while support also built wards. Mad?

Niaphim2 votes

There is a difference between "don't build SS at all" and rushing FQC for example. First is hard to understand, but the second route is perfectly viable.

Also, make sure you contribute to vision as well. Nothing makes me happier as a support than an adc who buys pinks, so that we have at least 2 wards (trinket+1-2 pinks) early in the game. When I see 4-5 pinks on the map simultaneously, I'm ready to die from happiness.

GarthBrooksIV1 votes

As a jungler and support main, I'm always trying to get vision whether its with scuttle crabs or buying pinks throughout the game, smiting enemy wolf camp, im doing it cuz i know it makes the game WAY easier. I get VERY salty when the support decides not to buy a sightstone at all. Especially when its someone like blitz or nautilus opposed to annie or zyra.

Niaphim4 votes

Ok, let me share my logic when I play support. So far it's been pretty successful.

There are ways to know where the enemy team is without using wards in the river/tribush.

  • Look where the enemy team walks from at the start of the game. Who leashed for their jungler? Can he gank early? You can then understand his jungle route and be safe for a few minutes. No need to ward.

  • The enemy jungler just showed up top? He won't be bot for another ~30 seconds, but mid might be in danger, ping it for your mid. No need to ward.

  • Enemy mid recalled or is roaming somewhere? Play defensively for ~30 seconds until he returns to his lane. Even if you don't get all the farm, neither does he. Wards are not that much needed.

  • Top recalled? Same, he could tp or walk to your lane, especially if he is premade with adc or sup.

  • Tracking enemy top's TP cooldown is your top's duty. When enemy's tp is off cooldown, always consider a 2v3 (if your top gets poked hard and cannot help you). No need to ward either, but you might consider getting an early sightstone to get sweeper.

On the other hand, there are situations when you should build sightstone asap.

  • Who is their jungler? Can he solo dragon? If yes, then get SS as your first item and ward the shit out of the dragon. I've lost count on how many low-health junglers I killed as a support in the dragon pit.

  • Do you have a farm lane or a kill lane? If you can't really be aggressive and only want to farm, you'd better get this extra health from sightstone.

  • You are a tanky support. Health is a tank stat, you want tank stats.

This I agree with....
