The Problem with ARAM

Flamedronex··10 votes·21,281 views

You ever just queue up for a game of summoner's rift and think man I really don't feel like playing possibly a 45min to an hour long game but I still want to play league. I could play bots but where's the challenge in that. So you decide to play some ARAM, because 3s doesn't even exist. Then you play one game and after it ends you think man I don't feel satisfied by the results of that game so I'll play another, then another , and another, and so on.... Then you realize you actually like playing ARAM and decide to take a break from summoner's rift. However, once you start playing more ARAM you start to hate it because every game becomes frustratingly the same. This will be my rant on what I think the problems are of ARAM and what Riot could do to fix it.

  1. COMP is so important its not even funny...

a) Champ Select: Sure in SR comp is important too, but honestly we all know in lower elos that ain't even true because people get carried. But in ARAM, there is no ace player, but rather the opposite of that (we'll call them a screwer). They are the player that is the most selfish player in the current game. Lets say we have a really solid composition. A nice poke mage like lux, a tank to engage and soak up damage, maybe a support and add combo, and lastly another adc. Two adcs makes it hard for one of the adcs to actually be a carry because most of the time the other adc will get all the kills. Thats completely fine, we can make it work. But then in the last 10 seconds of the champ select the screwer who has the tank changes to another adc thats in the pool and now we are left with 3 adcs. Now we got no tanks to soak up dmg and no engage. Our chances of winning pretty much drops down to 10% (depending on the enemy composition). Its not just triple adcs, sometimes we get three support champs with no adc, or we don't even have any ad (this can be due to someone rolling it away last second or our rerolls don't give us any ads). The game becomes exceedingly frustrating

b) Bad COMP matchup: we've all had those games where we go in with little to no poke, but its okay because we got late game. We got a cassiopeia that will just scale really well and a mundo to some up dmg. Everything will be okay. NOPE... Enemy has a xerath, ziggs, ezreal, lux, and some tank say trundle. Now the whole game is just a mini game of dodgeball. So much interactive gameplay right here.... Its not even team fighting, its just us waiting to die. Then you got the screwer who gives up 5 minutes in cause they don't want to deal with the frustration of being relentlessly pelted with dmg. And everyone knows 4v5's are near impossible in ARAM, unless the comp is completely in the 4 player teams favor (which obviously its not in this situation). So you then proceed to waste 15 min of your life, maybe 7 if the whole team agrees to open.

  1. There's no Tiers in ARAM... Honestly at first glance you wouldn't think this was a problem, because the whole game is just team fighting. nah the screwer has got to feed their brains out. Lower tier players will have less experience and understanding of strategy and will not only make bad team comps but all just go ham every time in ARAM. For example, lets say a low tier player is playing amumu. They'll rush in any chance they got to use their q at the start of the game, and then proceed to die, because they fail to realize what a huge difference amumu's ultimate makes. That feeding translates to the enemy getting free gold which is consistent because there's no bounty depreciation in ARAM. And what coulda been a fun even game of back and forth team fighting, turns into a one-sided match where the enemy holds us prisoner as they spawn kill us while the minions slowly eat away at our inhibitor.

  2. Why was Warmogs put back.... Not the biggest deal, but tanks are way too op in ARAM thanks to the summoner spell mark. Your team can be dominating the entirety of the game but the enemy has 3 tanks and you got maybe one adc or none or no support. Simply because they are tanks they will buy warmogs. Now your odds of victory are far less than your opponents. All it takes is one slip up on your team's part and you lose. Whereas if the enemy makes one mistake they'll just disengage and heal up. Not only is all your hard work wasted because of one item but it makes the game so much longer. One experience I had was the game was very even, but then everybody started building warmogs, even the mages (like veigar, brand, cassiopeia, etc...) that game took 45 min long, because we'd all just keep disengaging. It became a game where who ever messed up first loses. So basically half the game was spent clicking back and forth as we wait for the enemy to make a move. At least in SR if theres a stalemate you can have your top lane or jungle flank or split push. In ARAM you can't do anything but waste time.

There are plenty of more things wrong but I believe those are the main three problems. Here is what I think can be done to solve these problems:

  1. APRAM.... instead of making it completely random, how about we make it pseudo random? Have it so that every player is given one of 5 roles: adc, support, apc (poke preferably), tank, and fighter/assassin. Each player will get a champion that meets the credentials of that role and when they reroll they will only get another champ that is in that role. For example, if you are the adc and get draven, your reroll will give you someone like varus and the pool will only contain draven for you. Then when you switch champs with someone it will also switch roles and their respective pools. That way COMPS become more even and it isn't you just praying that the enemy doesn't have an op COMP because you decided not to dodge (which is another problem, like why do you get penalized for dodging an ARAM game?)

  2. Mini tier system.... maybe this is a long stretch, but perhaps we can have a 3-tiered system for aram where the bottom tier is people casually playing when they get bored of SR, the middle tier are people that play a lot of ARAM but themselves as a player aren't very good (like Bronze - Gold), and then the top tier are your better players and your ARAM accounts, you know the ones that only buy top tier ARAM picks.

  3. Remove Warmogs (self explanatory) and remove ZIGGS!!!... like omg this champ is stupid broken in ARAM. I've never lost a game playing as ZIggs ( and with presence of mind don't get me started). Ziggs is a one man poke army that can legit play 1v5 in aram where the rest of his team is just there to body block. Every single ability is aoe dmg and his ability to take towers fast makes it very hard for the opposing team to catch up. He will throw a bomb every 2 seconds mid to late game and then block you off with his mine field. I played a game once where they were constantly pressuring us at turret and ziggs would just place his mine field right between the tower and wall, and because the mines stay so freaking long, all we can do you sit there and wait for them to take our tower. ZIggs does so much damage, has so much range, and so flipping spammable, its so frustrating to play against. He needs to be unplayable in aram in my opinion. Xerath is almost at the same level but is fine, because he can easily be caught out and he is less spammy thanks to his charge on his q. Some have told me veigar is the worst to go against, but just like xerath he is easy to catch out and doesn't have that big of range. Sure his stun is annoying, but he ain't spammable in team fights, and will really only be able to use his ult once per teamfight.

Give us ARAM lovers a break Riot and make the game mode great again

TL;DR:

Basically ARAM sucks right now because good players get mixed with less experienced players, the randomness of the COMPS can make a game one-sided, frustrating, and a complete waste of time as you play a mini game of dodgeball, dodging enemy poke, and victories can be unsatisfying or loses feel like you got cheated on because tanks are OP. Solution: Make aram psuedo random where each player is assigned a role (adc, support, tank, mage, fight/assassin) and only receive champs that fit that role. Are able to swap roles with your teammates, but you only have access to a pool of champs that fit that role. Have a mini tier system so that more serious ARAM players can have a most fun and challenging game where we don't have to worry about feeders who jump into a game just to dick-around.

P.S. Yes its just "ARAM", but guess what Summoner's Rift is also just a game. If ARAM is a waste of time, then the something can be said about Summoner's Rift. I hate people who don't put any effort just cause it isn't ranked. You find losing/ one-sided games to be fun? Sounds masochistic to me...

I'm an ARAM OTP, I like ARAM because it taught me mostly everything there is to know about every champion 100x faster than normal. I've been advocating ARAM changes since season 3 when I started my ARAM experience, albeit on many different accounts. Everything you covered has been stated again and again... to deaf ears it seems. Not trying to burst your bubble because believe me if anyone wants change its me.

Let me say this, the biggest thing I want changed is the map itself. The idea of ARAM is solid except it gives way too much power and control to RANGED champions. This is because both teams are constricted to two directions: towards the enemy vs towards their safety net, THERE IS NO IN-BETWEEN. Because of this constriction, champions that excel in area denial and hit-and-run style are S-tier. The best way for this to be resolved would be to add more neutral areas to the map including bushes and the only way for that to happen would be to extend the map and add the same type of areas found in the jungle of TT and around the river in SR. I guess it wouldn't be "Butcher Bridge" anymore, but in the name of balance and sanity it would be incredibly beneficial.

Next I want to bring up Warmogs, which I personally don't use- even on tanks UNLESS they have absolutely no form of sustain at any point in the game. I'd rather opt for a Follow-up or Damage-oriented initiate and resistance build which seems to win more games over going for warmogs which needs other items to work. I think Warmogs accompanied by Mark is too strong, especially with more than one player building it. I don't think it should be nerfed however UNLESS there are critical map changes because currently there is no other way to win against a full-ranged insta-gib ARAM account team which I will cover next.

I bloody HATE ARAM accounts, they make me want to smash their degenerate accounts into the concrete. Why? Because they have NOTHING but S-tier and A-tier champions. This is 110% why youre seeing the same c%$# blockers every match is this right here. And since Riot refuses to do anything about it other than extending the free pool(which is OK until I have to play Nocturne or Amumu), the only real solution I see has been covered ad nauseum.

But I am so glad someone else understands that there is need for huge changes in ARAM and seeing that the ARAM playerbase in general is still going strong after years of the same problems, I believe there is no better time for change than now. We've given Riot many MANY solutions over the years, and its people like us that'll push Riot in the right direction.

P.S. I love the idea of pseudorandom, team-comp oriented ARAM, it would be a good step in the right direction to have actual viable compositions but it would also kill the rejuvenatingly fresh comps we sometimes get that when pulled off work oh-so-well.

How is amumu bad?

iPooUnicorns3 votes

Terrible innate tankiness, useless without ultimate until he has like 3 items.

This ^^ He's immobile unless aggro and relies too heavily on his ult, which don't get me wrong is one of the strongest ults in game. He's also a deeply depressed mummy and he cramps my style xP

  1. There's no Tiers in ARAM...

And tiers don't matter in matchmaking at all, they never do. All that matters is your mmr, your real rank. And Aram does infact have mmr. Sure players might be silver playing with a diamond player, that doesn't mean shit cuz this ain't SR. There's plenty of other things than mechanics and teamfight that decides who wins in SR, those things don't apply in Aram. This leads to possible differences in mmr on both. Idk how accurate Whatsmymmr.com is in actually checking your mmr but there's about a 500 mmr difference in aram's favour when i look up my account.

this game for example: https://matchhistory.euw.leagueoflegends.com/en/#match-details/EUW1/3921843360/219017511?tab=overview

the highest ranked player was diamond 4 the lowest bronze 2. Yi's the diamond player btw. Everyone else is between silver and gold. We all had to listen to this headass bitch about his silver teammates but he wasn't doing much. His build imo is pretty bad too, idk why you'd go static into rageblade and not either rush IE+Static or Botrk+Rageblade for actual synergy. I wasn't our highest impact member for sure but the only ones i'll say outperformed me were xerath and karthus, a silver and an unranked player. Fuck, if that headass had traded me jinx i'm sure we could've even won that match.

Thanks for the website it makes me realize wolvius the biggest complainer in here doesn't even play Aram AT ALL, lol. Imagine complaining for paragraphs and paragraphs on a subject you have no experience in.

My mmr is 1647, seems someone plays more Aram than others.

If you want to play the MMR card mine according to this site is 2020, ARAM percentile (top 9%). You got to change the search to EUW cause I aint NA.

My replies have been longer than i would like but anything I tried cutting out normally messed up the whole paragraph and resulted in more rambling overall.

Edit: And I agree warmogs aint a problem they'll either murder you or force you back into fight by catching out an important teammate while regening. Warmogs Asol is fun.

I know the pain of plat+ players building like monkeys. If you build bad in ARAM you are basically useless, theres hardly ever a sustained fight unless both teams are bruiser heavy (A+ fun mode imo). Yi should almost always build like an assassin, wait for the long CD CCs then go in and murder when theyre over extended. SR rank is just for show in this mode, the real determining factor for the players is their positioning prowess regardless of champion and how they analyze + adapt to the ongoing changes in lane.

I look at it like a dance, if you misstep you will be punished for example.

The best changes I think that could be made to ARAM:

Make the map wider, add a few more bushes, and/or bring back item 4001. Like SpiritOfOdysseus said, area denial is way too effective due to the map constraints. This is also why assassins have a very hard time; they need room to flank.

Adjust or remove bounties. Right now you only need two kills for a shut down which discourages melees from going for suicide kills; however, playing back is also to the melee's disadvantage (since they can't do damage).

Balance runes for ARAM. Precision is a must for most champs because of the strong "on kill" runes: Coup de grace, Triumph, and Presence of mind. On the other hand, runes that rely on game time (like Conditioning) are bad. It'd also feel good to have replacements for the literally useless runes like Waterwalking.

Lock out other players from picking up your reroll for a few seconds. I'm always paranoid about using my once-a-game reroll when I have a champ I like because people sometimes take them off the bench instantly (especially if they have a faster computer) and won't give them back. Plus, it'd be nice to have just a little time to decide which champ I want after a reroll.

Remove true vision from summoner 39. A personal peeve. The purpose of the spell is grant mobility (and a bit on poke/damage), not to counter the few true invis spells in the game. If I dive in as Talon and the other team is wise enough to use it on me (point-blank) I essentially have no way to escape/reposition because my ult was all but countered by a low CD and common spell.

Responding to the OP's post:

Comp is too important, I agree. I'd rather they balance champ base stats (like on Nexus Blitz) rather than implement a role-based system. Some people hate playing a specific role and some champs are way better at a role than others (i.e. Sona vs Bard).

ARAM has its own hidden MMR so you should be placed with people of relatively similar ARAM skill.

Warmogs should not to remove with out at least a compensation item. It only actives as a 3rd full item (not including boots) unless you bought RoA. By that time the game is at least half over and fights are often to the death (making the regen less universally effective). In addition, it offers no resistances (which are crucial for tanks) so you are really banking on the regen if you buy it.

SpiritOfOdysseus1 votes

Heavily agreed with your posts, especially with the removal with that awesome little item (forgot name)… RIP duskblade teleport jax, deleting squishies mark + item active- In then out. Swoooosh

There is a tier system in Aram, its not advertised and not obviously apparent, and it apparently resets with the season. But if you win enough games of Aram you will notice your opponents becoming much harder and deaths meaning much more and a much more competitive team. You don't get mass amounts of snowball divers who think getting a kill even though they fed 4 assists is a good thing.

Playing on both sides of warmogs it is not the end all be all item of the game, the problem is you think every group you are assigned is one you should play with. That is not a winning strategy, especially if you have no serious poke, you are just asking to lose.

Aram is fine the way it is, if you don't like it make an Aram account and you will definitely have more fun. People who say that is bad think it is ok to play with 5 horrible champions for 20 minutes while being utterly destroyed and having no fun whatsoever. Or the ol hey we will just surrender in 15, that sounds real fun, accepting loss at the beginning. To those people I laugh you get mad when you lose when you accepted losing at the start.

Some games you have absolutely no hope of wining though like there is no way that Chogath Quinn Bard Corki Nidalee will win vs Lux Heimerdinger Malzahar Jinx Jhin .

Too much cc to overlap, great poke, as well as instant waveclear with lux ult. Supppression if an engage somehow happens. They had a nexus turret down before ff even became available at 8 mins. Some games aren't worth the aggrevation of playing when gaming is supposed to be fun.

But then again I do like playing Evelynn ,Warwick and trundle on ARAM.

The only thing ARAM needs is tuning to knock-down cases like lux ult insta clearing waves every 20 seconds and a way to select some champs from your pool that you never want to play on aram for people with many unlocked champs. Or conversely certain champs are aram locked until you have a certain number of champs in your pool.

You mean you like playing some of the worst possible champions in Aram then get mad when you lose. Stop using horrible champions and expect some kind of win rate.

You really would use Nidalee as your only serious poke? On top of that you let your only adc be Quinn and then theres bard whos range is just ass. You don't get to accept a horrible team comp and expect to win, that's not even trying, unless you are playing with new people.

There is only 1 overpowered champion in Aram and that's Pyke and I have no doubt at some point he is destined for the nerf machine.

I also would like to say you will never play with me probably if you consistently play champions like that. Because I don't care if I have Ziggs or Lux or whatever. If other people take champions that are clearly worthless other than to try to take a kill so it can "look" like you were doing something I will just crash. Its funny because I bet you were thinking "i bet he really wanted to play Ziggs", which is true, but not with people that haven't figured out whats correct and what isn't. You kind of bring it on yourself and amplify it by intentionally playing with people others don't find acceptable. Seriously Evelyn seriously, your not even trying.

Do you know what ARAM stands for: All random all mid, dont really have a choice with the team comp when you dont have rerolls. Do you think I wanted to play Chogath VS that enemy team the only choice I can remember was Garen which would've been even worse in this case.

I'm fine when I get Eve and trundle even against Bad odds because its fun nuking the shit out of the most irritating enemy as well as healing passive and trundle is fun because you can snowball and clober squishies.

And where did I mention wanting to win every game with bad champs, I said Fun if you want to only play to win even when its miserable go play ranked, playing reksai and getting carried by your team for doing nothing isnt fun or interactive, Wining because the enemy has two AFK's after 3 minutes of gameplay is boring. Facing Lux, zerath, cassio every second game is fuckin boring. Some of the most fun I've had was as all melee teams and we still lost but at least it was enjoyable and were close to winning.

There is far more overpowered champs than just Pyke, some have one super weakness that cant be exploited but when two or more are on a team you cant abuse said weakness. Pyke is far from Op until late game hits, but at that stage there are far more powerful champs.

Edit: Not every time Eve is available I pick her, since Dark harvest rework its not as fun as it once was (old darvest and E interaction). Also theres a reason all champs are available on ARAM and weakest not disabled, some people like the champs that Arent S tier or good enough at them that it can work if not facing bullshit ,if you care so much about your "ranking" go play ranked instead.

Like I dont know how Hecarim is classifed as bronxe tier for aram he only suck if you go something stupid like predator instead of aftershock/Electrocute. When reworked dark harvest was originally op it made trundle fairly strong as he could get stacks quickly and have some decent damage without being too squishy. I'm fine playing with and against "S-tier" champs but the same champs every game over and over is so boring theres a reason there are over 140 champs in LoL and why do you think they increased the ARAM champ pool to include past 3-weeks of free rotation champs.

I tried to explain this is not an official ranking system, it is a lowering of opponents. No I don't get afks or cry babys who just quit in the first 5 minutes, that doesn't happen anymore. There is no reward for winning games outside of harder opponents. But that's where the fun is really at, because who wants to play low tier mindless Aram?

This games champions are built for summoners rift not for Aram, with that said, I almost never see anyone playing cassiopea, her range is horrible and that matters a whole lot on aram. But I did have a game the other day where we had Lux Xerath and Ziggs all on the same team. I do not wish to play with junk champions or have them on my team, its a loss, and not worth the effort. How can you get mad about things like people afk when you constantly pick champions no one expects to win on? This does not mean because a champion is weak they are useless, I will still play Heimer but at least he has range.

Low range mages are useless, champions who only hope of achieving a kill are diving are useless if they cant get out alive after diving. Theres a lot of useless going around Arams, its just identifying it on your side before the game starts. Also just because someone has a great champ doesn't mean they will perform, which is why you want everyone to at least be usefull overall.

Just because divers have no escapes doesn't mean there bad if they can manage to zone or eliminate priority targets, you would probably agree warwick is a pretty bad aram champ but he still has his uses if you have a workable comp/know your win conditions for that matchup. Fearing/suppressing either vlad/fizz when they exit pool or when low enough they could be picked of by delaying their heal, disturb their combo etc. Or just zoning the ranged while my team dealt with vlad/fizz. Another squishy/ranged kaisa would have been reall useful in that match right and then the team would have no frontline to zone all because warwicks considered a "shitty" aram champ.

Thats why I like trundle he actually has usefull team utility, impassable terrain+aoe slow, resist steal/shred (anti-aftershock lissandra as you take the percentage on cast, so they end up squishier than if it didn't proc for them) and something people forget enemy AD reduction (i miss -50ad for 8 seconds). But I guess I would be better off first timing viktor like hashinshion did in top-lane.

Divers are useless because they cant escape after a kill?, some aram games are like chess you eliminate a valuable enemy by sacrificing a lesser unit? have you not experienced those games where the full melee team stalls long enough that they get tanky enough that they can win off one a few good engage by champ like alistar for the rest to follow-up and get in range to ace the enemy in an all-in. The amount of times as trundle i've ran up or snowball (3rd Q snowball morde is scary) to a relatively low cc, long range team just start clobbering one of them and retreat after killing/severly chunking them to regen to near full off his passive.

Also the 3vs5 are rare but it aint just quitters there are games where people never connect due to internet problem or game starts before everyone loads in (rare but serverhamsters, has happened a few times to me along with worse server errors), then someelse has quit cause they didn't want to 4v5. There have been people on both sides with platinum rank (that is fairly high summoner rift rank wise? I dont recall the tier order cause i dont play ranked) that have afked/never connected.

(I know there is a hidden MMR for aram thats why u never see bots after a while, for most anyway)

{quoted}

You are supposed to have fun in aram precisely because of RNG. You wont win everything.

The problem are Aram Only accounts. Which kills the purpose of the RNG and kills the purpose of experimenting champion kit combos or ult combos. Makes it one sided and boring.

This guy gets it, also you learn more about champs you would never play, like morde E giving a set shield value per enemy hit on-top of the damage dealt part or that the W's causes the random healing. (I knew he had healing but never what caused it) It was actually quite fun bonking people.

While warwick is nice to be the tank of the team, his vision is a nice plus but there are better tanks to play than him, trundle either really, sure Trundle could carry as a ad, but then hes probably not tanking so much at that point.

I think people who constantly dive and die need a justification that hey they got that kill so it was worth it. Sure diving has its place but diving in and giving 4 assists to get your kill isn't usually helpful.

I am not saying don't use every champion several questionable ones can still be used each game, but you cant make the whole team questionable champions it doesn't work. You don't have to only play a certain group of champions but there has to be a limit to how much is acceptable, and on who, because you can be on a bad champion and be useful but you cant change people to understand when they aren't being useful because their score says otherwise.

Never said full AD trundle, trinity+ tiamat into tank (sheen or tiamat can be usefull until a completed relevant defense item) is enough damage to deal with a squishy if you can get to them (ala bruiserish trundle). Sure there are better tanks but you don't Pick your champ your given a random one and have to use that to the best of your ability. The way you win games is through objectives (well towers as there are no dragons) and you dont deal much damage to towers if the lux ult and E's clears the minion waves every 20 or so seconds.

I'm not complaining about people playing bad champs it can't be helped and they may be better on them than an S or A tier champ their unfamiliar with( ive played yasou who is good but I sucked and would have been more useful on evelynn that game), im complaining that ARAM only accounts that have such an unfair advantage and it culminates in such BS and unfun matches with a select few always S-tiers repeadidly in them.

The point of Aram accounts is to play the best possible champion for YOUR ability, not just every powerful champ because they may not work for you. Why should people be forced with a bunch of champions on roles they would never play?

The problem is you need to fill roles in Aram like poke or tower killing or usually some kind of tank, and having a roster full of people that do none of the above are pointless. While usefull in summoners rift, there is absolutely no reason to possess certain champions. Aram is a group game and your continued use of useless champions effects more than just yourself.

You want people to not care about the game and just play anyone? Then lose, the lowest brackets are full of people that don't care about anything. But don't go around telling everyone they have to play your way, they obviously have chosen not to.

Maybe you should take a note from the history League was founded on which is from Dota, which was Warcraft Frozen Throne being played in a way that was not intended. Not intended is a choice, and trying to make it by force into something it isn't will just make less of an audience.

But of course playing bad champions constantly will lead to one result, many crashed games, which could be quite a headache. But solving that headache is more with you then changing everyone else.

You are supposed to have fun in aram precisely because of RNG. You wont win everything.

The problem are Aram Only accounts. Which kills the purpose of the RNG and kills the purpose of experimenting champion kit combos or ult combos. Makes it one sided and boring.

Yeap and its been problem number one since the beginning. Luckily we now have the reroll bench AND snowball. Thank you Riot!

both teams coulda won that match. You literally have an assassin vs 2 adc, 2 heavy poke champs, bard who can pretty much flex into whatever he wants and one of the biggest frontliners in the game.

Nidalee would never be able to get close, one auto from jinx (or anyone) into jhin W or lux, heimer cc led into a painful CC-chain until death did ye part. Almost forgot malz ult and she went DH so she wouldn't have had the burst anyway, she did her best hitting spear(8000 champ damage) but chogath (me) had second most damage on the team and that was 1/4 of hers.

Wow bird-girl had 300 champ damage

a way to select some champs from your pool that you never want to play on aram for people with many unlocked champs.

Or conversely certain champs are aram locked until you have a certain number of champs in your pool.

I like this a whole lot as it would balance out ARAM accounts having it easy mode vs main accounts with 70+ champions having hard mode on.

Or maybe adjust MMR levels to give better results in a win when a player has more champions because currently the system is broken/rigged where the highest MMR players of course only own strong ARAM oriented champions.

Yeah or for champs that are enjoyable on normal maps but are useless on ARAM, it would help people that play champs like reksai on normals and don't want to play that shit on aram (she has got to be one of the few champs that is useless nearly all the time except mwybe as an aftershock disengage for a poke team, but man them games was boring)

A higher mmr gain could be a good change as well for games where your at a disadvantage but somehow manage to win while trying to escape a game which feels like tartarus.

I don't disagree with you exactly, but ARAM is my one and only mode and it does get tiring looking at the same bridge for 16k+ games. IF they would add more neutral areas it would give those "horrible" champions an actual foothold in the game. Once I get time off work I will work on some simple paint diagrams to theorize how it would work without changing the jist of being on a bridge, surely you don't disagree with adding neutral zones and objectives in such a linear game mode..? ^.^

Nawk2 votes

-Widen the bridge about 5-6 feet and give about 20% movement speed base bonus so we can move with immobiles and move better with the ones that are mobile! (Assassins have no pressure! Other than 1/100 game rare OTPs cough Fizz PENTAKILL!! cough)

-Remove the ''friendly heals cut'' AND item 3083 and turn it into a ''support damage cut'' so they feel like support... soaking/healing/peeling and are not AP poke/zone/CC ''unstoppable godlike lengendary'' Ennemy missing ? ? champs!

-Add some kind of ranked system so ARAM fans can keep playing the only mode that they like without ''its only ARAM'' last-sec-swapper/roleplayer/troll frustrating random player. (3 Tiers? like previously mentioned would be already huge)

-Turret plating x10 on the useless first tower for 14 10 mins? (Make the tower damage or attack speed scale like the mitigation?) OR Turn em into Frozen solid Vel'Koz ulting killing machine (Hi lore winks) so i dont tilt because i am the only one good at staying in exp range dodge ball in my team and we loose 2 towers if i die!

Add those and i will FEED... Every poro i can, if i can... forever! (Wheres the permanent flaming hot poro pet from Nexus Blitz??)

TLDR: We are super pretty Carnivores and hate to starve because of laser mounted loud and salty herbivores... Dont touch my RNG.

EDIT: Just checked the view count, its obvious that ARAM is popular! Help ARAM! Riot please!

The people who complain about warmogs probably never play a tank. Warmogs has never been a problem unless the whole team is using it.

People in higher rankings don't let people with warmogs just go in and out, they burn you down exclusively if you try to go in.

Meanwhile Pyke is literally giving gold to his entire team and is just about the only invisible assassin that is still more powerful than any other invisible champion in the game, including talon. But if that's not enough he has a built in warmogs that just lets him heal when he isn't visible which on Aram is all the time.

Riot has been moving to making invisible assassins harder and less of a cake walk, and they need to finish the job they started. There is no fun in any game where I cant see the opponent while I fight like Akali, vision is too important in League to give invisible champions too much power. Pretty sure the devs see it this way already or there would already be a real stealth assassin like Dota in League. The answer is not getting vision, because if you asked the far majority of people playing against someone like Pyke I am sure they would say they are having a negative experience.

I dont see the point of your post, warmogs is totally stupid on ''high rank'' tanks who bait everyone's cooldown and get out with 50% hp... you might see those at ''higher rank'' maybe. Then Pyke, only really good Pyke can do it right... those are not common, i think a badass Yi is way more tilting and OP than a badass Pyke... You also have a LOUD af alert when hes invis + an obvious circle at your feet, flash his ult and hes back to low pressure. His win rate is just above average in ''higher rank'', that confirms all of this. (right next to Yi)

My previous post aim at the ''fun and challenging'' general balance of aram... not specific champs that is RNG, my best friend who is always there to take the blame when OTP Pyke gets Pyke and Penta my team 3 times...

Thanks to everyone who also understand that we should have dodged a game but play it for fun till we loose and just gg at the end and jump in the next game, the ARAM community in general... is the best!

That is actually one of the only tactics warmogs users can use against ranged CC chain heavy comps. Whether their team understands that the warmogs user isn't inting is another story...

Warmog is an issue on some champs is necessary on some champs and situations.

A poke does bully other champs.

A carry in Aram is the most skilled player. In Aram everyone gets enough gold to build something. Having a lot of kills is not necessary. If you focus on who gets most kills then your objective is wrong. I have played matches when everyone concerned about kills but not dmging the tower.

I do agree comps can be crappy but I have won with some crappy comps and have loss with some good comps.

Ziggs just need his W Nerf along with some other balances. Honestly, a lot of champs need balances for Aram. Morg's Q, veiger's cage... Etc.

Tier doesn't really matter in Aram. As some one mmr however does. And I think Aram as it's own MMR. But no matter what the game will throw odd balls to keep you around 50% win rate. Not exactly 50, could be lower or higher.

The psuedo Aram is one many have mentioned before, not if riot has the tech or not willing to invest in it to add the change.

A small tier system is something, I will welcome as a measurement to skill, (since I have played lots of Aram).

Map changes(to its design) and Aram specific items are something desired as well. Have like a two lane, only a small structure between the paths.

Aram certainly needs more balancing. One year of balancing might be enough to bring Aram in a more desirable spot. With occasional balances as champs might received buffs or changes.

Don't see that happening any time soon though a rioter tweeted that there will be some balances in the future. Riot is more focus in introducing other modes than balancing the other two.

So... to fix ARAM, make it not random?

SpiritOfOdysseus1 votes

No. You've got to put thought and effort into major ARAM changes, it's not some minor game mode.

Saevum1 votes

The only single easiest thing to do is just open the rooster (all champs available) and have some sort of RNG automatic ban system during champ select.

"You won't be able to spam these champs this game summoners, you can carry on now"

Deep Banana1 votes

My biggest problem right now is how weak the towers are. Lose the first big team fight loose two towers and inhibitor. Make a good comeback in next team fight get 4 of their members down and barely lose with them killing all 5 of your members, bye bye remaining towers and probably Nexus unless they wanna extend the painfully short game by not attacking.

For your first point not everyone knows or likes to play the champs they get. You mentioned someone leaving tanks, but no one wants to be the melee guy going into an all ranged comp. As for 3 supports, as long as they are ranged, they could be built and played as ADCs in a pinch if you really need to. I played ADC lulu the other day in part because the team needed it and did okay.

On the second point, if you want to play ARAM you are going to have to accept that you are going to win some games and lose some because of RNG alone.

xTHEV0iDx1 votes

I have never commented on a forum post, so this will be my first. short but sweet.

I agree with you, its like riot on purposely wants teams to fail so they give us nothing but supports. or nothing but melee while the other team has aoe's with poke..... and not to mention, the que wait time has substantially gone up, with the issue of getting bot fill ins. riot denies this but from the looks of it, they lie. I mean 5 pentas in a game as mf.... riot what is going on?

You are frustrating the ARAm community, and seems like you only focus your programming now on making improvements to SR focusing on ranked que instead.

WHY.

Pyke is beyond broken in aram. Its unusual to not get a pentakill with him in aram. He is an overloaded champ(like all the new champs riot makes) and he is perfect for teamfighting and catching people. He resets on an aoe ult and he builds lethality so pretty much nobody can itemize against it. He has catch, infinite sustain, aoe hard cc and a resetting aoe execution ult. That sounds like what you would decribe as godmode especially in aram. Literally the only thing he does not have is ranged burst and a shield. Those two mechanics are the only two mechanics he does not have. Although pressing e means you are in range to attack so really he isnt melee in the same sense that darius or nasus are melee.

The random aspect of aram makes it so rng decides your games way to much to be enjoyable. Its more like I dont feel like playing SR and I want first win so I play aram until the coin flips and I get a win. I think the bilgewater aram mode was better than the normal aram, the bans make it so you can remove the champs that usually just cause you to loose at loading screen. And the rng of aram really does make it so that a significant number of games are lost from the start. Besides its a much nicer map skin, the frozen map of aram could be a christmas theme. Also you could be able to "ban" some champions from your own pool. So you should be able to pick out like 10 champs from your collection that you will never get in aram(I guess it can scale with the number of champs you own). That would instantly make aram games decided way more by the players than the rng picks. I'm just so tired of wanting to just have a fast game of league and then feeling like no matter what I do I have no chance of winning. all the enemy has to do is to not screw up immensely and they will win. League is not balanced for ARAM and I get that but there are some really simple steps to take that will make it more balanced. Like having bans to allow players to balance the game on their own.
