Malzahar's Malefic Vision granting vision

Deputy Sandwich··81 votes·2,043 views

Could Malzahar's [E] give vision of the creature that's infected?

1.) Fits his theme of being a void seer, seeing all things, etc. 2.) Fixes the annoying issue of his voidlings not pursuing into brush when he doesn't have vision.

That would help so much.

It's really infuriating to watch Voidlings run away from the enemy and start attacking Scuttle because you loose vision.

… Wait, it doesn't already? The heck?

Steelflame5 votes

Nope. You probably just got ignited because thats an obvious thing to drop on the enemy when you are already commiting to the fight.

That, or it was support malz and he already warded the bush in question.

I was more expressing that it's strange it doesn't grant vision, given the thematic of the ability at least.

wow viable buff really? makes too much sense bro so riot wont do it

Too bad they're removing AD Malz gameplay entirely :/ It's PBE so hopefully they reconsider.

HarIe1 votes

Voidlings will still have AD scaling and void staff is easily the best penetration item in the game. Only real loss is not being able to utilize death's dance or black cleaver for your own damage.

KoKoboto2 votes

You might as well build AP, voidling damage + spells do damage.

40% BONUS AD scalings for Magic Damage... ye no.

HarIe1 votes

Malzahar currently uses same ratio for voidlings.

Malzahar currently uses same ratio for voidlings.

voidlings do mixed damage on live right now

HarIe1 votes

I am aware, Beacon was placing an unusual emphasis on the ratio rather than where it was going.

Pre-rework 100% Bonus AD Physical Damage / 150% Damage & Armor 7s / +100% AS 14s

Post Rework 40% Total AD Physical Damage / 10% AP Magic Damage

Currently 40% Bonus AD Physical Damage / 20% AP Magic Damage

Future 40% bonus AD -> Magic Damage

"Voidlings will still have AD scaling and void staff is easily the best penetration item"

What is the point of building bonus AD if they deal magic damage and you lose out on the AP ratios of your spells?

Lets get AP Malz functional again before we concern ourserves with supporting his off meta build like the genius rework did.

PureSilvrr2 votes

But I like my off meta build ;-;

The irony of the rework is that with these PBE updates, literally all of the net "progress" they've made with the rework could've been accomplished with just changing the numbers on the old kit.

Which would've left AD malzahar completely in tact.

He gives them vision, that's why it damages them. It is too much to handle. But I agree the voidlings should follow into brush

Void Kaiju1 votes

Brush is meant to be the universal counter to minions of every kind. They would be far too oppressive if they could follow you into brush, breaking aggro using brush is a strategy, and you can easily counter it by using your own wards. The buff you suggest would likely need to come at the cost of reduced usefulness of the voidlings.

Why would it need compensation nerfs though? Doesn't Malz desperately need buffs, but not numbers-wise, because that might make him overbearing again? I'm not for or against the idea and even if I was not like it's gonna get added. Just curious is all

Void Kaiju1 votes

A) He has huge changes already on the PBE that should do plenty for his viability (hopefully!) B) The reason he had to keep being nerfed was in part due to the reliability of his minions/kit in general. Visions are point and click, ult is point and click, minions are cast and forget. Most challenging to deal with would be his minions, because they add a ton of free damage already for him during a fight. Adding reliability to that particular aspect of his would probably require a compensation nerf even if they don't go through with the current PBE changes. It's almost exclusively a buff for support Malz which people already seem to hate, and provides next-to-nothing for his midlane play. Give him changes that give both him and the enemy laner more agency over what he is able to do, rather than just provide him with more reliability to an already extremely reliable kit. (Example, make ult more of a skillshot, drop the pool and targets near the center are hit with his current ulti. Allows a bit more damage/power in his kit due to the potential for him to miss, like warwicks reworked ulti)

But wouldn't that really hurt stealth/camouflage by practically making them visible because the spell's dot

Mhihnj1 votes

the shimmer effect already makes them pretty much visible tbh

^ This is like one of the reasons why Wukong fell so far out of favor.

This will just push him further into support...

Not with the voidling changes it wont. Malz wont be a support after next patch

SweedishGunner1 votes

Yeah he won't be mid either. I'm seriously concerned about the Voidling MR nerfs, his early laning phase seems like it'll be even worse.

They buffed his Q and E ratios, and his voidlings don't need malefic visions to deal 4x damage to minions. He's definitely better mid. His waveclear got better, his kill pressure is higher, and his lategame got better with ratio buffs. Malzahar will most likely be a good mid after this patch.

Beacon Academy1 votes

The ratios will actually push him further from support because as a mage:

Experience will be needed from solo lanes to put points into spells and

The ratios will require him to get gold from minions to actually utilize the damage.

If you really care about the Voidlings (I don't level them til 13) then you can always take him top with Rylai's

FatedSaviour1 votes

maybe not vision, but still have the minions chase a E'd target even without vision

Bladerunner77771 votes

I like the idea, but as a Malz main, this would be really strong.

I don't want him to be overtuned so I would only implement this if his mini rework next patch makes him too weak.

I agree with this. AI companions are always a pain to manage, as they will fail to do what you want them to do for bizarre reasons (e.g. running back to you just because they lost vision of an enemy that obviously went into brush). While I'd personally also support tweaks to pet AI so that they enter brush for a split-second after an enemy moves there, I think this could be a thematically appropriate way of improving Malz's minion-mancing. There could be the risk of making him slightly more support-oriented than he needs to be, but if that happens, I'd also be in favor of nerfing his bases and buffing his AP scalings.
