Buying upgraded boots while using magical footwear on a full inventory

So I played a game earlier where I had the rune magical footwear. I bought a cloth armor prior to 10minutes (when you get the boots) and my inventory had filled up due to starting item, refillable, stopwatch, cloth armor, etc... So I wanted to upgrade to ninja tabi past 10 minutes (when I'd normally be able to get the boots if I had an open spot) but even with enough gold to buy ninja tabi I couldn't buy them due to not actually possessing the magical boots yet. I had to sell my refillable potion to be able to get my boots and buy ninja tabi which felt kind of bad. Would it be possible to make it so that if you have a component of your upgraded boots such as cloth armor or a dagger or null mantle and you don't have your magical boots yet (only due to full inventory) that we could be able to upgrade into tier 2 boots?

This needs a solution, so I am voting it to the top, but I have to say that this is one of the more unique problems I have seen on this boards as I never manage to fill my inventory before 10 minutes.

Well, if you think of potion and control ward, that's two slots there, if you think of your starting item (dorans/support/whatever) that's one slot, and then if you think of 3 things to build into your next item (ex: tiamat which has two long swords and one rejuvenation bead) you're easily full by 6-7 minutes.

Yeah, but 10 minutes in though, given that most, if not all, players typically buy and bought boots without the rune in the picture, people running this rune should have enough sense to not clog up their inventory when they KNOW boots are coming. This is a matter of common sense.

If you set up your rune page with the pre-emptive knowledge that you will receive a free item at a locked point in the game, you really shouldn't be getting in a fuss when you've created a situation where you don't receive that item at the time it was supposed to arrive. It's like Christmas. It comes at the same time every year, so people should honestly be prepared for it, and not last minute panic shopping on Christmas Eve. If you know you have boots coming and you want to upgrade them, don't fill your inventory to max.

Let's say someone backs at 7 minutes.. their boots are on 10 minutes right now, they buy the items they can afford at the time, figuring they will back again before 10 minutes. Oops, they were doing good in lane and so had no reason to back just to get boots.

I think it's perfectly reasonable to ask that the boots be "held" in limbo and be able to be used to make an upgrade purchase even if they have not triggered the inventory yet.

Same thing happens with Sona, starting item + tear, +fairie charms for a forbidden idol, +any items you get from klepto/biscuit delivery.

Dorans ring, pots, dark seal, null magic mantle, control ward, lost chapter makes this happen ~once every 4-5 games.

High elo problems. Be low elo. Who needs both dorans ring and dark seal. Who needs vision. Who needs early one-item defense. Suddenly you have Lost Chapter, Pot, Boots and three extra slots. Profit.

It's pretty easy to do with potions, control wards, components, starter items, biscuits, and the stopwatches along with the ocassional kleptomancy.

I don't mind Riot putting more consumables in, but taking inspiration makes your items a bit cluttered.

^Voted indeed, I've had this issue before too riot, by minute 10 I had item 1056 item 2003 item 3070 item 1028 item 3113 item 1026 Which, granted is rare but it happens, and i had to wait to complete my item 3027 before I could buy the boots.

I've gotten stuck on item 3070 item 1056 item 2055 item 1028 item 1052 item 2003 , haunting guise is surprisingly expensive in combine cost, for a non-final item.

It's less of a problem for me though because I tend to go haunting guise before sorcs in this case anyway, or I sell the pots.

But allowing you to upgrade to tier 2 boots in a "phantom" inventory slot I don't think is right.

If you are in the shop, and have the gold to upgrade the boots, you need to do item management of your existing items to make room for your boots, or just sit on the gold till you use your consumable items. Then next time in the shop you upgrade the magical boots to tier 2.

The rune already saves you $$, and as long as a slot is free you gain them without backing, which is another advantage that those with out the rune don't have.

You're missing a crucial point of the thread. In the OP's example, they already had cloth armor and wanted to upgrade to ninja tabi. So to follow normal rules, if you didn't have magical footwear, you would be able to upgrade that cloth armor into ninja tabi without sacrificing an inventory slot. However, with magical footwear, you are unable to do this if the boots have not yet entered your inventory.

The same thing could be said for merc treads, if you have a null-magic mantle in your inventory; as well as berserker greaves if you've got a dagger in your inventory. With magical footwear and a full inventory at 10 minutes, you wouldn't be able to upgrade those components into their respective tier 2 boots until you free up a slot in your inventory.

So the boots aren't going into a "phantom" slot, they'd be going into the slot that had the component of the boots.

I doubt there is an easy fix to this. You would have to break some rules of the item system or inventory; the bugs it could create alone make it not worth it.

Like, the situation sucks for sure, but it's extremely rare to fill your entire inventory before you get the boots (unless you're stocked up on Klepto consumables which you can just sell). Even then, all you lost was 90g from selling Refillable.

I just don't see Riot prioritizing this bug over others, unless they can find a surprisingly easy fix.

Magical footwear rune lets you upgrade cloth armour alone into upgraded boots after 10 minutes (like how you can turn dagger into kercheis shard)

Doing so removes magical footwear from delivery

So Tabis build out of cloth armor and boots, so why can't it just replace your cloth armor with the tabis? Once you upgraded into the Tabis it would be taking up only one slot anyways, so if had to sell something else to get the boots and then upgrade you're left with an empty slot. Maybe that would be game breaking in some way, idk. You can do it with other items, though. Let's say I had a full inventory. 5 complete items and then a long sword. If I had enough gold to buy a Hydra with that long sword, it would just replace the longsword in my inventory, despite not having any other components. Why can't this work with the free-ass boots?

Are you sure you were getting the movement speed for the magic boots since they were not in your inventory? It does not seem right that you can have max inventory + an invisible slot for boots.

No, he means upgrade to tabi from cloth armour then the game doesn't bother giving you boots anymore.
