was there any point at which you could lock Pick-A-Card mid animation on TF?

ive been playing a handful of TF recently, as i bought him forever ago but i only just now started picking him up seriously. one thing that's been bugging me, though, is that i could swear that at some point you could lock your Pick-A-Card in the middle of an autoattack animation, and it would apply the card on that autoattack.

was this ever the case, or am i just misremembering?
