Why does Zed have such a high ban rate?

SoullessZed··5 votes·3,729 views

Why do you think Zed has a high ban rate? Think about what can counter a Zed (No, don't put any bad matchups, they can be easily beaten with simple tricks). Stuff like Zhonyas can completely destroy a Zed. Zed is not even that broken. Vladimir pool, Master Yi Q even can shut down a Zed R any type of (untargetability can cancel his R). If people do complain about Zed one shotting someone, then they should know they can flash away after he finishes R and appears.

Because Zed's counterplay is standing under turret after he hits 6, its not interactive at all. He is also ungankable if he doesn't use W as harass. Also he is one of the many champions that are made broken or borderline-broken simply based on these one-hit burst items like Duskblade and Stormrazor for example. Despite Duskblade's nerfs in the past it's still too strong as well as other items.

Fun fact, Riot considers Zed their poster child for assassins, or in other words, they quite literally consider him to be a perfect example of a healthy assassin. Now, if you want an example of a healthy assassin, I would take Kha'Zix into consideration, or maybe even Ekko, but Zed? Come on Riot, you guys aren't even trying at this point.

The thing is... he actually used to be the best designed assassin... something that was viewed by most of the community in season 5... the addition of Duskblade, changes to lethality, then the changes to runes made him quite broken and annoying...

Hell a huge part of the annoyance is due to the fact he can proc electrocute from only using two skills... Q and W... The argument is that W shouldnt be able to provide 2 procs for electrocute (agreeable)

This post kinda discusses his issues:

Zed, along side Yasuo, has always been the most hated champ in the game, and with the nerf to the QSS that removed its ability to remove debuffs (such as Zed's ult) it makes sense as to why people hate this champ so much. Now, I'll agree that Zed has counter play and personally I've never had a problem with him, but at the same time Riot Games is no stranger to making champions that infuriate the player base, such as Fizz, Malzahar, Zoe, Akali… need I go on?

  1. Because he's an infuriating bitch to play against.
  2. He counters just about every mage and can beat any other assassin if played right.
  3. He is completely broken especially with Duskblade at it's highest peak.
  4. Zhonya's isn't even a counter anymore. He can delete through the weak armor it gives come mid game, and since the active CD was nerfed from 90 seconds to 120, he can ult you now over three times in the timespan that it's down so it's save me once, die two or more time after.
  5. He can still kill you without ult, and even if he did ult, even if you flashed after, you still fucking die, thanks to Riot buffing the damage in the game with runes and what not.

So that's why people ban him.

It's really not. But thanks! At least I try at something, unlike you, who doesn't try to win against Zed and instead lies down and lets him steamroll over you every time you fight him and continue to bitch about him.

Sorry but it is. And really? Stop assuming things. I do try to win against him but because of things said above, I can't.

What a biased Zed main you are. Sheesh.

Sorry, but it isn't. And really. I'm not assuming anything. I know for a FACT you aren't truly trying to beat him. If you are, the ONLY reason Zed should be able to beat you is if he gets fed off of your teammates. Even then, that's NOT on him. That's on your teammates for being literal fucking acorns. If your earlier "points" are so true, shouldn't everyone struggle against him? Should he not have a 100% banrate and a 100% winrate when he's not banned?

Shouldn't all Zed mains be in Challenger because they just roflstomp the poor enemy mage and proceed to steamroll over their team?

Shouldn't Zed be the number one picked champion in ALL Elos? In Bronze-Silver, where nobody knows how to play against him, so Zed absolutely demolishes people like you, or Gold-Plat, where people have a better idea how to play against him, but still struggle due to their teammates not knowing how to play against him, or Diamond-Challenger, where he's absolute shit because EVERYONE knows how to play against him up there, and the top champions played are mostly M A G E S?

Shouldn't Zed be a Pick/Ban in Pro-Play if he's SOOOO dominating just like... oh shit, M A G E S HAVE BEEN FOR THE PAST FEW SEASONS?

Shouldn't your points apply GLOBALLY?

If so, why DON'T some people struggle against Zed?

Why ISN'T Zed at 100% winrate and banrate?

Why AREN'T ALL Zed mains in Challenger?

Why ISN'T Zed the number one picked champion in ALL Elos?

Why ISN'T Zed a dominating pick/ban in Pro-Play?

Why DON'T your points apply GLOBALLY?

Because the problem is with you. The player. Not just YOU in particular, but most people in low elo who DON'T know how to play against Zed.

Run Resolve Secondary, with Barrier. Play champions who give Zed a hard time like Vlad, or Annie. Get Stopwatch ASAP and rush Seeker's, into Tabi's. This early game denial is so strong it will force Zed to either roam to get kills, or you'll have to fuck up MONUMENTALLY for him to get him a kill. Once you get Zhonya's. Don't let Zed push you in. His Qs deal SIGNIFICANTLY less damage through minions. Stay out of range of his W, or try to bait it out so you have 22 seconds of free reign over midlane (huh, that rhymed). There's a myriad of options.

Don't look to Riot to nerf him 6 ft under just so you don't have to see him again. Look to high-elo players who stomp Zed. Look at what they run, what items they rush, how they play. Take what they know and apply it to YOURSELF. You won't get better at the game if everything you hate gets gutted. You'll only get better if you can beat everything you hate as they are. The stronger they are, the more of a challenge it'll be. Zed's in a decent spot right now. He's not as absurd as Season 6, while not as dogshit as he was in Season 7. Now would be the IDEAL time to beat Zed.

And Zed's main complaint is his damage. THAT'S what people think is making him strong. The truth is, even if Zed's damage was nerfed, people will STILL find shit to complain about, like his W, or his R, or his E. It's not his damage that's the issue. It's peoples' refusal or flat out denial of counterplay that makes him so "strong". People refuse to build armor. People refuse to go Resolve. People refuse to get Stopwatch early. Then Zed takes advantage of that and absolutely decimates them. Then, they take to the Boards, and lo and behold.

Haha. Biased Zed main.

Nope, it's not me. I do everything I can including Zhonya's, resolve, and exhaust as I'm mostly a support main, but I do play mid sometimes. Doesn't do shit.

Reported.

You aren't worth responding to anymore.

And yes, it's Zed. Period.

Ad Hominem. Neat.

A Supp Main? Hm... None of your most played champions, as far as I can see, are ideal for dealing with Zed as a Support. If anything, Zed can actually easily play around your champs and get to his target. You have a few champions (mostly tanks) which work, but they aren't one of your more played champions. That's probably why you're having a hard time as Support with Zed. With mid, since you're mostly a Support Main, you aren't as proficient in Mid-Lane as a proper Mid Main. I'd know because I was there as well. I started out as a Lux Support, and eventually moved into Mid Lane with Ahri and then Zed. But I wasn't as good at Mid (or Zed/Ahri for that matter) as I was with Support.

Reported? For what? Calling you out on your post? Alright. I've got nothing to lose at this point. Whether it's justified or not, I'm not gonna argue.

I like how you responded accurately to every single point of mine, though. Every single one. With quite an elaborate response.

Bye!

Because I know they aren't true.

I've barely played this year because of the way the balance has been, then I had a mid life crisis that I'm still going through. Anyway my favorite champions to play yes struggle against him. But even then, most champs because of runes and Duskblade, who could do well against him, used to be able too. Now they can't.

Last few years I played way more mid, and before Zed had become a stupid OP champ, I was able to deal with him quite well. But I've changed to support lately because of all this crazy snowball damage fest of a game.

Except... most of them were?

I've also barely played this year due to balance. Also due to the game simply not being very fun (mechanically, that is. Nexus Blitz and Odyssey are really fun).

And there's another issue that might have some effect on why you hate Zed so much. Your champions simply aren't that good against him. You don't have to really change who you play Support generally-- but you should consider picking Janna, Lulu, or even Nautilus or Tahm Kench if you see a Zed on the enemy team and your team isn't already equipped to deal with him (e.g. heavy CC from Jungler, good bruiser Top to duel, someone who can push Zed in at Mid).

Zed's runes and Duskblade have been nerfed. Duskblade's gonna become an exclusive with Stormrazor. A lot of the champions who used to do well against him still do, with a couple of exceptions (i.e. Liss and Brand, who come to mind).

But Zed WAS legitimately a stupid OP champ a few years ago. He was ABSOLUTELY absurd in Season 6, and many Zed mains claim Season 5 (and 3) as the BEST season(s) for Zed (despite the Tank Meta in S5), and you know us Zed mains. Never satisfied unless Zed is ridiculously broken, right?

I digress. Perhaps your switch from roles had SOME effect on your playstyle? It's happened to a few of my friends. One of them, who mains Jungle, wasn't very familiar with playing mid on anyone aside from Veigar and Ryze (i.e. spam bois). He eventually got better, but still makes some key mistakes whenever he plays Mid because he's not a Mid Main.

I have a sinking suspicion that your Support Playstyle clashes with your Mid Playstyle, and this has SOME effect on your fighting against Zed. Especially considering your main champions of Lux, Nami, and Morg, who generally play more passively in lane until they see an opportunity for a good Q, which isn't as effective as a playstyle against Zed in Mid as someone like Vlad or Kayle, who play more aggressively against Zed and have a few safety measures to fall back on in case something goes wrong (albeit Kayle's W isn't as useful as Vlad or Zed having their Ws up in the event of a gank from the enemy JG).

They are not true.

I know my main champs for support don't do well against him. That's why when I play them, I ban him. I'm pretty good at adapting my choice depending on the team comp's needs and against the enemy comp as well.

People are still complaining about runes and Duskblade so I don't really see a difference. He's still absurdly OP.

I don't remember what season it was but I used to be able to shit on him regardless of who I played mid lane, even pre-rework Zyra- I have the whole gameplay video recorded if you want to see that. Now I can't even play really any of my champs against him mid lane.

I won't disagree that my support playstyle could clash with my mid. Who knows cause I haven't played mid in forever. I just choose to ban him each game now because I don't want to deal with him anymore.

Any champion who has the ability to move freely is toxic, that's why. Yasuo has no cooldown on E, Zed free flash, Lee Sin lul, Fizz E, Akali E+ Shroud for both engage and disengage, Shaco invisibility+mini flash with it etc.

Zed has probably the cleanest assassination kit in the game.

He doesn't need to dive like Shaco, Talon, Kha, Rengar. Go in with R, do you thing, swap back with your shadow, get the kill.

LeftyRaydy3 votes

Look is Zed OP, no he is not. Is he over tuned, maybe in the hands of a skilled zed player. What I will say is his laning phase is too safe. and he can wait until he hits his opponent with enough abilities for an easy swap and all in. They need to make him more interactive during his laning phase and that is about it. the only interaction currently is you dodging his skills and waiting for him to go all in. He can farm and poke pretty safely and cement this with the fact he requires energy so he does not have to leave lane unless his HP is low makes this a very un-fun lane that can feel unfair.

Maybe its a pain in the ass to play against that op sheet? Just maybe.
