Mentality. Making a comeback is incredibly hard work, and players would rather lose than put in the effort needed to get back in the game. So when a few teammates get behind, everyone accepts subconsciously that the game is already a loss, because no one wants to deal with the tediousness of making a comeback. After that, the losing team just casually waits around for the enemy to win.
