A Cool Feature to have When choosing your Role

I was talking with one of my friends and he had brought up a good idea. If an individual picks the Fill option when picking his/her role, they have their secondary allows them the option to exclude a role. So, if you don't mind most roles, but you have one that you would rather not play, you get that choice, while still opting in for 4/5 of the available roles. Personally, I would love to see this added to the game, there should be more people picking the fill option and with only 1 role excluded per each user choosing fill, it should decrease queue timers. I'm sure many would like to do fill, if not for that one role that they dislike strongly.

UPDATE:: Many people have made mention that Riot has tried this on other servers and it has gotten negative reviews. This was dated back over a year ago. Currently, I believe support has been seeing a lot more play and has been given plenty of attention since to make it a much more attractive role. I would like to see a test run implemented for a brief amount of time on the NA server to see how it affects our server. If it goes negatively, then yeah, get rid of it, however I think it is worth a try again. Also, how long did the test run on the OCE server?

I see this as an option for people who don't want to support, but also want more variety to the roles they get. (Personally, I'm a support main this season. I use to hate the role, but it has grown on me and is now one of my favorite positions to take)

In addition to what many have mentioned: Although this sounds very contradicting, maybe the support role could be an option you can't object.

Just another way for the masses to shun support, doesn't really fix anything.

Current system has auto fill in it because a majority of players pick two roles that does NOT include support thus leaving us without enough supports to go around.

Include this system the masses will opt out support giving them 4 potential roles BUT again that does absolutely nothing when the masses are still, say again, opting out of the support role. There is once again not enough supports to go around with this system.

Its a more complicated system that has the same outcome; no one wants to play suport.

They already tried that on OCE, everyone just excluded Support which made queues much much longer and no one liked it in effect. It's a good idea in theory, but in reality it simply doesn't work.

They did a trial of role exclusion on a server a year or so ago. They got overwhelingly negative feedback about it, and scrapped the idea.

It might be okay sometimes in some regions, but Riot did not feel it was a worthwhile system to include.

Most people would use that to go against support, but I would like the feature. I can't play mid well for the life of me.

I would totally queue fill if it meant not getting jungle

When I auto-fill, I would exclude ADC, not support.

What people don't seem to understand is that the ones who don't want support already do not pick support. Giving you the option of "all...but' does not mean that if it comes down to it you can't be autofilled into support if that's all that's left. It just expands your options at no real detriment.

Right now we're already working with a "All except" system, it's just - "All except three unless you get desperate" and what we could have is "All except one unless you get really desperate".

if i could actually exclude jungle i would fill every game.

I would really enjoy fill except adc. While I enjoy mid, jg, and support, and I can tolerate top, I LOATHE playing marksman in any position. So since people flip out if you queue bot and play something other than marksman I play blind mostly and just yell NOT ADC at the beginning of each select.

I agree with this, however autofill might still be a must to avoid people from excluding support every time. This idea has been brought up so many times, but i will always upvote it

I agree with this, i love every role except top and i never fill due to the risk of getting it.

I'd llove that, I can do fine in any role except adc(unless i'm in the mood for ezreal)

This has already been attempted before on the PBE and they disliked it then. No offense to the idea but I'm sure they will dislike it again

I honestly love this idea.

Only one problem that I foresee and is already mentioned is that a lot of people might actually exclude support. Not just support, but any role that's getting the shaft in the patches.

But I believe pro players like Olleh are making Support a more attractive role. So maybe the idea might work now. But always??

But for the enjoyment of the players, this idea would be pleasing. But I actually see queue timers increasing because of my statements above and because you are adding an additional filter to the Fill option. The game now has to limit the games you queue for, increasing queue times.

This would be cool.

The whole point of autofill is so someone has to play support. The option to do fill except support will just bring things back to the way they were.

warpenguin55510/26/2017, 5:24:02 PM1 votes

They tried this, everybody who went fill was excluding support so it really didnt do anything

Poppystar10/26/2017, 5:26:30 PM1 votes

I do this so I could exclude mid honestly. I fill often actually and I'm just grateful mid is a popular role. If I hated jungle and filled, what a nightmare that'd be lol

the sea lions give their entire 100% support to this idea rito needs to look into this

We've already had these discussions about any type of role exclusions. It doesn't solve for anything. It only prolongs queue times and has the potential to autofill a player into the role your team needs that's lower ELO if this happens.

Imagine 5 buckets that sort the elements according to role. Top, Jungle, Mid, Bot, Support. Under any type of exclusions, you can sort elements according to at most 4 roles but exclude one bucket completely. That bucket will always have less elements in it and once all of the elements have been matched, the element that's in shortage is always going to become a bottleneck for the entire queue experience.

That means queueing up for longer because the matchmaker is searching for a role that's missing and is still relatively in your ELO/skill level. If it doesn't find anyone for quite some time, its search parameters widen and then people from lower ELOs will get included. Filling a role with a player who's less skilled than your average team ELO is also bad because you're likely to lose from the position that's the weakest link.

You can't skip autofill because the role distribution isn't equal among the roles. Players will naturally gravitate towards their own favorites and will always have the least favorite ones to play as.
