I haven't played LoL in literal years.

Has the game changed so drastically that there is no hope of returning? How am I to fare against the champs in Quick Play? I haven't played I think since the Sivir re-release but that's just guessing at this point.

If I were you I'd say as FAR from this game as possible. Don't recommend it to friends, don't play it yourself, and ignore everything you ever loved about this game. Because it's all gone to shit, and the only reason the rest of us are still here is because we're either too financially or emotionally invested in it to leave.

It's perspective. The game has changed, but it isn't exactly terrible.

Sadly, it's true.

Since you left, they've added even more badly designed champions whom everyone hates, and now there aren't enough ban slots to keep them out of our games any more. Half of their reworks have made the reworked champion even less healthy. The power gap between the S-tier champions and normal champions has grown even wider, and often it feels more like you win because of which team has the champions that are the most forgiving of mistakes. It also feels like mechanical complexity and APM has become much more important compared to strategic depth and good positioning/planning.

The new mastery system has introduced tons of damage or free power to everything and now helps champions overcome their designed-in weaknesses. Their itemisation reworks have been extremely hit-and-miss. Marksman can just rush attack speed (usually Hurricane) because the Fervor mastery makes up for lack of AD. Mage itemisation is terrible right now because everything has CDR and defences on it, so mages end up half-tanky with perma-slows due to the buffed Rylai's rather than being fragile damage dealers.

The community is as toxic as ever - probably more so, especially right now at the end of the ranked season. People flame in almost every game. At least one person on the losing team of almost every game is constantly asking for false reports. Other times, people give up and leave or start to troll after the slightest disadvantage.

As a longtime player, I have to say where League is at right now is one of the most fun eras its ever been in. That might all change after the preseason hits, but I've been very happy with the second half of Season 6, both with the game's balance and with content releases.

There's a lot to get used to if you're getting back into the game. I remember I took just a half a year break in the second half of Season 5, but it was rough for me coming back. There are a lot of new champions to learn (17 if you actually stopped at the Sivir update) and a lot of old ones that function completely differently (~20 super-significant updates in that same time, with a couple of more on the horizon).

Just play some normals. I recommend you play with a friend who can tell you about certain changed things as you go. If you want some specific advice on how the game has changed, ask away, I'm sure lots of us will help you out.

Approach League as you would a new MOBA, not as a game you once played. There's too much that's changed since then for you to treat it any other way.

Are you telling me I should abandon all of my dank skins and make a new account or something?

DrCyanide1 votes

No, I'm saying expect to feel like a noob. Many champions have 8 spells worth of stuff crammed into their kits. Special conditions on all sorts of abilities, every ability having a passive, items working completely differently, etc.

It isn't that hard to get back into it really. Just have to learn 3 things pretty much: champion changes, new jungle, new items. In 2 weeks it is going to be a new season with a lot of changes so people will be testing stuff out so it will be a good time to try it again.

Oh man maybe I'll stay away for awhile. >_>

Go into a norm and try it for yourself, that's the only way you'll know, since most people on here are just here to complain about rito or salty from changes to the game.

I wasn't here in season 5 or the beginning of season 6, but since i can't compare it to anything I guess it really mean much when I say that this game is fine, riot's doing a good job. Yea some people are toxic but it's not like 99% of the people you'll find in your games. All the items/champions in this game have counterplay.

I gave the game up for 4 years and came back to find that my account had been stolen and then sold to someone. hehe that was a fun support ticket.

Anyway I'd say that you're in for a bit of a learning curve. I was playing for around 2 weeks before I really felt like I was back to a decent skill level.
