Zyra or Vel'koz?
Does not matter if its supp or mid lane.Main goal is to be usefull in teamfights.And both put a lot of pressure in teamfight.Question is who puts most down to the table?With who of the 2 i can help the most with? :)

zyra has better and more reliable cc , can easily out damage with her base damage and you as a zyra support can still get 
and not hurt your damage what so ever. YES GET SS ON MAGE SUPPORTS! . as far as velkoz abilites are harder to hit , cc not as reliable and while having true damage in kit zyra's ult in a disengage is really really strong and its aoe.
i say for more of a support zyra, more for mid velkoz.
Vel is funnier to play imo
It Depends. If you want more cc, pick zyra. If you want more damage especially to tanks, pick Vel'Koz.
zyra is better for all ins, general team fights, and she has a higher burst overall. shes exceptionally good against full squishy enemy teams.
vel koz is better for poke and sieging and is better against tanks. a lot better at kiting and wave clear too.
overall i think vel koz is the better pick right now.
id rather have vel koz to poke and widdle an enemy down before the fight starts and possibly keep them away and force them off an obj than be feast or famine like zyra.
As a Vel'Koz main who got to plat with him, I have to say his rework oriented him to the mid lane more so than the support role. He can work as a support, yes, but he and his adc need to get a gold advantage to be useful. If you can get that lead then he'll do well in teamfights, otherwise Zyra feels more reliable.
If your team needs CC, pick Zyra. If your team already has a lot of CC, pick up Vel'koz. I like Zyra because she can protect pink wards well.
It's situational. Zyra is more flexible since she has more CC in teamfight, but she will never shred tanks as much as Vel'Koz does. So go with the enemy comp!
