A buddy of mine made an account and the whole time he was climbing to ranked, he was matched with platinum and diamond fighters. Then when it was time for him to get ranked. He was placed in silver. Why is this? Will this happen to me?

A player without any ranked history defaults to around Silver 4, then climbs or falls depending on their wins and losses.
If they regularly play with and against Platinum/Diamond players in normal games, then they shouldn't have any issue climbing out of Silver or Gold.
ZephyrDrake1 votesif you were to give a ranking system to normal games all those plat and diamond players wouldn't be anywhere near close to gold or just barely gold since they more than likely rarely play normal games so they cannot increase their MMR to the same lvls as their ranked MMR. Also Silver is where the average player falls so him falling there is at least good news to him since it means he has a grasp of the game and can easily climb if he improves a bit
