S.o.S. (State of Singed)
Ok, so
is my most played champion as of right now (I'm level 5 with him, which feels pretty cool). However, I find that I don't play him very often (or really want to play him all that much), despite the fact that I love his goofy, "run around like a retard and let people kill themselves by chasing you," playstyle.
His early-game might just be a problem unique to me, but I feel like if Singed has to lane against someone like
or
(I've seen more Vayne top-laners than I'd like to remember), he will lose his lane, and his opponent will be fed for the rest of the game. Those opponents can easily poke him down, while he struggles to get to them (and then once he gets to them, he can't do enough damage to win the trade). You buy mana/ap items for better creep clear and damage, and you die faster. However, you stack armor against them, and you start running out of mana (and you die again).
He feels like he can fit two different kinds of playstyles: full AP and mana-based tank. However, both of these builds practically require both
and
to be able to work. This reliance on those two items makes his tank build feel weaker, because you don't have as many defensive options (only 3 tanky items, 4 if you don't want boots), and the shield from Seraph's has a very long cooldown and is easily shredded in a teamfight (any situation with more than 2 enemies chasing you away). And yes, I am aware that Singed's primary role is a split-pusher, but if a game lasts past 40 minutes (and isn't a snowball), you're gonna run out of lanes to push, forcing you to take part in teamfights (unless you like watching your whole team die, shortly followed by 3-5 enemies jumping on you and destroying you before you can run away). As a tank, Singed can't do much damage, he doesn't have a good engage (i.e., Blitz's arm, Thresh's hook, Naut's etc...). His E kinda works, but you have to be in melee range to use it (and more often than not, you'll throw someone in the wrong direction).
His other build, full AP, is more fun for soloing teams of bronze-level players (who don't know what the green stuff on the map is). However, this build is even more useless in the late game. Singed is a split pusher, reliant on running through his enemies to do maximum damage. He has no poke, and if no one is in his gas, he does no damage. However, if you've built full AP, there's no way you'll be able to run through the enemy team without getting annihilated (Even with Seraph's shield, you're still dead before you can do anything).
The Distortion nerfs hurt him pretty bad this year, and I find it very difficult (even with
and
) to effectively kite enemies.
Due to his weird kit (which I do love) and his necessary items,
feels like he doesn't fit either of the aforementioned niches very well (and building as a hybrid tank/ap doesn't fix the problems I have with him). Personally, I'd prefer if he was given a nudge towards the AP end of the spectrum. For instance, if his W was changed (to be something more similar to
's E, small damage poke but added effects if the target was affected by Singed's other abilities), that would give him much more versatility overall. He'd still have his beautifully stupid poison trail and his unpredictable throw, but he'd also have some poke to be able to deal with ranged top-laners, and to be able to deal some damage in a teamfight (without dying in the middle of the enemy team, desperately trying to spread your poison and to throw someone else)
TL;DR : Singed doesn't seem to fit any good niches right now. He's too easily countered (in my opinion), and his best builds are offset by either being inefficient or useless in the late-game. I'd like to see him get some light poke, to help him survive his early game and contribute in the late game.
Sincerely, someone who loves Singed (and wants to play more of him)
