Azir or Aurelion Sol?

Asher0216··16 votes·8,533 views

I have quite a bit of experience with both champions, but I would like to know which one I should continue to main. I seem to do better with aurelion, but azir has a higher skill cap, so is it worth it to keep practicing with azir? Share any other thoughts you may have.

Who do you have more fun with? If you perform better with asol, but enjoy those games less than Azir I'd probably suggest Azir (or vice versa). If you're looking at it purely from an optimizing of winrate I'd probably suggest Asol. Given his low popularity it's far more likely that when you pick him your opponent won't know the matchup and is more likely to lose it (even in a matchup that should be in their favor).

As an Aurelion Sol main, I recommend Aurelion [sg-kiko]

Aurelion Sol is the only champion who can milk those.

Aurelion Sol is the better one, imo, because of his ability to roam to other lanes very easily.

New azir is busted af, but aurelion sol can hard carry games much harder when played perfectly, so aurelion sol

Azir can also hard carry games when played perfectly. His damage is insane, and you can decide if you want to peel back or go for the big shuffle play.

The decision of those plays are too difficult and varies with each game but if you know how to understand how to analyze the situation and know when to go in (flash times, cooldowns on abilities, etc) he can be a very difficult opponent to deal with especially experienced azir players

Actually maining Aurelion is tough. First picking him is risky, as Kassadin, Talon, Fizz, Yasuo, Ekko, and Zed are TERRIBLE matchups. Like, Tryndamere vs. Teemo-level terrible. Some Aurelion matchups are so bad that many mains of the champion actually take AD runes and ignite so they can cheese kill at level 2, because its practically the only way to win lane. Either that, or armor/mr quints and just try to survive.

What are matchups he can tolerate/do well against?

Most mages are pretty easy, though Malzahar TwistedFate Ahri can be hard. Since all you do in lane as AurelionSol (unless you are super good at him) is push, you can force mages to choose between using their CD/mana to harass you, or to push the wave. Since AurelionSol has so much map mobility, getting back to lane is rarely an issue, and he generally has a defensive setup for lane (MR blues w/MS Quints + item 1001 item 3010 rush) making it even less productive to spend your waveclear ability to damage him.

Aurelion Sol because his play style is the complete opposite of my play style, I have deep respect for good Aurelion Sol players for having the patience & love to such a majestic champion and play style.[sg-jinx]

you like birds? azir you like glowing balls? sol

Sol is better for roaming team plays so you don't have to hard carry directly, azir is perhaps better for personal 1v9 carry potential.

I'd say main Aurelion sol. On you get my respect for maining aurelion but also Azir will likely get nerfed where aurelion will not.

I always love to see a really good Aurelion Sol since they're so rare so I'll pick him. They just cause terror on the map with the quick roams from mid to top or bot.

With the huge preseason update coming our way i would suggest taking a fresh look with the new runes and look what fits the most than.

I think you should main Aurelion Sol because of what he can offer his team and with the right build you can be a secondary tank while still dealing decent damage. Plus getting good at Aurelion Sol means you're good at positioning and knowing skill ranges (i.e distance that Q will evaporate or the extra range on ult)

The word is that Azir is op right now.

This means that if you learn practice now you'll get a bit more of a safety net so even in your poorer games you're still able to play and learn. So I'd say Azir right now, because if you wait and are unsatisfied with Aurelion it will be harder to pick up Azir later.

I am partial to Azir because he is basically the mage ADC, but that being said:

Aurelion Sol is a much better roamer, which for climbing elo is the BIGGEST way to get an easy win.

Azir is a better team fighter (please don't kill me ASol fans, he is still good!) so I think in a coordinated flex with friends he could be stronger.

Azir is straight out stronger right now, for everything else than roaming. He deals a lot more damage: 3 soldiers have 90% ap scaling, while Aurelion stars have 52,5% ap scaling. Azir attacks faster and have a higher base damage. He has great mobility and can avoid ganks with E while Aurelion mobility is cancelled by damage, even though it makes you able to roam quickly. He has good lane pressure all the way from level 2 and scales very well into mid-lategame.

Don't forget that Azir also has some of the best objective damage for midlaners with massive attack speed, both to turrets and monsters. He's also a beast in siege situations with the zoning and passive. I haven't really been playing Aurelion, but I find Azir to be a lot of fun and already got a 61% winrate with him on the way to diamond. He's basically freelo, and even better once you get really good at him.

Aurelion shares some of these strengths, but in this meta and with the current damage numbers he is outclassed by Azir.

If you're considering Aurelion, think about Taliyah instead. Ever since her w indicator got changed she feels better to play.

Depends more on your reflex capabilities as well as how fast you can move the mouse. If you're slightly slower than most and can't move your mouse relatively quick while also hitting buttons faster than most people can still with sol. However if you're fast af boi you can effectively pull off some seriously unexpected azir combos with some work.
