Can anyone explain why we "may be required to play provisional games" in the preseason.

I may have misread the notification when i logged in (it happens from time to time) but it sounded as if it was gonna affect my elo. If someone could set me straight on this i would be very appreciative. Preferably before my head explodes. [zombie-brand-mindblown]

Flex Queue is the only ranked queue that's live right now. It's technically a new queue, so you have to do placements if you want to play it, in much the same way you'd have to do placements if you wanted to start playing 3v3 Twisted Treeline right now but hadn't done that in the normal season.

When Solo/Duo Queue opens up (this week? next week?) that's where you'll keep your existing rank and continue from there.

You can play provisional games and try to climb higher in the ladder to make the Season 7 provisional games place you slightly higher than if you were a lower rank when they do the soft reset. Basically it's for elo and you can try getting a slight head start for Season 7. (I could be wrong, but that's what I've gotten from the message and I think the patch notes... I know I read some more on this somewhere so I'll have to find it again if it wasn't patch notes).

dynamic queue screwed ranked up pretty bad so everyone's mmr was reset for this season, so these provisional games are a way to balance it out and put player's mmr back to their proper skill level

the first little bit of time should be rough but eventually it'll balance out and these should return to how they should be
