How does the "Normal" queue for matchmaking work..

So recently I've been getting chat banned over and over. Yes I know it's my fault but I can't help getting super tilted when the Normal queue system constantly places sub level 30s and "Summoners" into my game who don't even know how to properly use a single champion yet. I currently have over 1,000 games played. I'm level 30. And on top of that I have almost 13 mastery 7 champions.. My issue is with the fact that even with those stats and constantly doing better than the entire composition of allied and enemy summoners, it has yet to place me with more adequately skilled players. I believe that there should be a way, other than MMR, to calculate a players skill.. The reason I can't currently increase my MMR is because I recently moved and my internet where I'm at is not always the most stable and I wouldn't want to cost my team a ranked game cause I lagged out for a few minutes.

Normals goes based on MMR, just like ranked. In ranked you get the badge and when you check your games on lolnexus you'll see the teams are pretty fairly balanced. At times you might see a Silver 5 in your Bronze4 games if their MMR is low and they are about to demote. That is because the Silver 5 is going against where his MMR places him, not by where his rank badge shows him to be.

Why is this relevant in your normal games? Because as I said in my first sentence, normal match making is based on MMR, just like ranked. Chances are your normals MMR is around the same as your ranked MMR. In the Bronze 5 to Silver 3 range it is very typical to catch games with people that are brand new 30s since it is near the lower end of the MMR spectrum.

The only way you will get more skilled team mates is if you consistently win a bunch of games in order to bump your MMR up. If they just put you in a game where everyone else had Gold MMR due to the fact that you have 1,000 games played then the people that are in Gold MMR normal's range will feel just as jipped as you do due to having the pre 30s.

I'm level 30 and I've played League for maybe a year now. I've never done ranked before and I've always had games that are back and forth (just winning some and losing some) so I'm clearly going against people on my level. So say I were Silver or Gold skill level even though I've never went into ranked and not even with an alt account. If I were to go to ranked and start off as Bronze for some "eh" reason (say some int-ing teammates in my games), would I be going against higher ranked people like Silver 3 or Gold while in my Bronze bracket? I have no idea how this works. Any ideas?

If you have never played ranked but have a decent amount of normal games then you can typically figure out your rank range by looking up your matches and seeing what ranks the players you are being match with are.

One site that I really like to use for that is: https://na.op.gg/summoner/userName=TriStar12+

Typically about 60% of the players you are match with are in Bronze and the other 40% is either low silver or unranked. Don't let this put you off too much though because if you have never played ranked before it is incredibly easy to place in Silver after your 10 placement games; I have seen friends go 2-8 and still place Silver 5.

If you did somehow place in Bronze, which I think a 0-10 in first season puts you around Bronze 2, you would be getting matched with players that are also around Bronze 2, so typically bronze 3 to Bronze 1. If you then won like 3 or 4 games in a row after placements your MMR would raise up to around Silver 5 / Silver 4. The earlier in the season you are / the least amount of games you have played the more malleable your MMR is. If you have only 10-20 games then each winning or losing streak can greatly influence your MMR. Once you have a bunch of games (100+) then your MMR will not budge as much from 3 game winning streaks or losses.

If you did get unlucky and went 0-10 but then won 10 games in a row you would more than likely be getting matched with high silver to low gold people. This would make it so you gain more LP than normal so you would promote to the next division / tier faster. Also, if you are for instance Silver 5 but have Gold 5 MMR you will have the chance of skipping from Silver 5 to Silver 3, possibly even without having to do promos. The system is pretty good at catching you up to your right rank if your rank and MMR for whatever reason isn't matched up.

I hope this answers your question.

Thank you very very much! This helps a lot! Is there a way I can recommend you to be a mod or something? XD
