When do wards become visible?

TitusRaven··1 votes·10,136 views

i know that when you place a pink ward in a brush, it will reveal an enemy's pink. but does it also reveal other wards: stealth, warding(yellow), Farsight(blue). is it also possible to reveal a pink with a stealth, warding(yellow) or Farsight(blue)?

but what if you place your ward outside of a brush? can the enemy see it?

if an enemy champion has a small, pink glowing eye above their head, does that mean they can see my wards? how?

one time, i placed a pink ward in a brush, revealing shaco's jack-in-the-box's. no more than 3 seconds later he came by to kill my ward. How?! Are there any other instances when placing wards that enemies can see them indefinitely?

another time, i was playing supp and warded the first river brush with a pink. the enemy jung came by to gank us and we fled before he could reach us. right after, he went back to the brush and started killing the pink. How was he able to see it not the first time, but the second time he entered the brush? is an enemy's activated sweeping lens invisible to me?

aNOTHER time, i placed a ward in a brush and it died immediately. How?! sometimes, i place wards and they die before expiring right after a farsight ward animation is activated. fact or coincidence? last but not least, how and why would you use farsight wards?

Okay, you seem new so I'm going to explain wards to you, and then I'll answer whichever questions are left.

There are three main types of wards: Stealth, Vision, and Farsight.

Stealth wards come from either the warding trinket (the yellow one) or from Sightstones (an item from the shop that allows you to place wards), or from the Tracker's Knife (a jungle item that behaves similarly to a Sightstone). These wards are invisible, except for a short duration upon placing them. These wards are revealed when the enemy uses a Vision ward (see below), or a Sweeper on them, or smites Wraiths and walks near them (will be explained later). When they are visible, they can be destroyed with three auto-attacks from champions, or when they expire. You can have up to three of these wards on the map at a time. Use these invisible wards to gain vision on important locations and locations where the enemies are likely to be.

Vision (pink) wards are purchased from the shop for 75 gold each. They are visible to your enemies. These wards allow you to see invisible champions (like Rengar), invisible traps (like Shaco's boxes), and Stealth wards (the ones explained above) within their range. They also provide sight, just like a normal Stealth ward does. Whenever the enemy is in range of them (and in the same bush as them, if they are in a bush), he can see them. They can be destroyed with five auto-attacks from champions. They never expire. You can have one at a time on the map and carry two in your inventory. Use these visible wards to gain vision on invisible enemies or to clear enemy wards from important locations (such as Baron).

Farsight wards come from the blue warding trinket (available at level 9). This ward is different from the other two. It can be placed from very far away, granting you vision in a wide radius for a few seconds. However, enemies can see that you placed this ward for the first few seconds, even if they are far from it. Once the first few seconds pass, the ward's vision radius becomes short, shorter than that of a Stealth or Vision ward. These wards are visible to the enemy team, and can be destroyed with one auto-attack. They otherwise never expire, and you can have an unlimited number of them on the map.

Sweeper trinkets are another way the enemy can spot your Stealth wards and destroy them. They are the red trinkets from the shop. Running it over a location reveals all Stealth wards in that location. They also outline stealthed champions, but you cannot target these outlined champions for abilities.

As for the pink eye above champions, this is a short-duration buff which can be obtained from using Smite (summoner spell) on the Wraith Raptor camp (the jungle camp with four monsters in it). Smiting the big monster gives you a buff, indicated by a pink aura around the champion. As soon as you are spotted by a ward, be it Stealth, Vision, or Farsight, the buff expires, notifies you that you've been spotted, gives you the pink eye above your head, and allows you to see this ward for a short duration, during which you can attack it and destroy it.

Well, that was a lot of typing. Hope this helped you. Reply if you need any clarification, and remember that the LoL Wiki is your friend for this kind of information.

Thank you for such an in-deph reply. this was most helpful.

however... im pretty sure the wraiths are from an earlier patch... just saying.

Well I just checked and they're called Raptors now. It's the camp with the one big monster and three little ones. Smite the big one and you get the ward-spotting buff.

I just call them Wraiths because that's what they used to be before the map update. Old habits, I guess. People seem to understand what I'm referring to, though.

Ok. You can always see an enemy pink ward, you do not need a pink ward yourself or red trinket it to see it, the same fact goes for the enemy blue wards, you are always able to see them aswell. You cannot see an enemy ward from the sightstone or yellow trinket ward, you may only see these when you have the red trinket or a pink ward that is in vision range of the enemy ward. Hope this helps. Also pink ward take 5 autos to kill, yellow&sightstone 3, and 1 autoattack for blue wards to kill. Also, Invisible enemy traps can be seen with a pink ward or red trinket when used within vision range of it, teemo shrooms, shaco boxes. You may also see champions that are invisible if they are in range such as Rengar Shaco Teemo Evelynn Akali Khazix Leblanc Talon Twitch Vayne MonkeyKing

ok here's a quick rundown

  • pink wards - always visible to the enemy team, and they can be taken out if the enemy team sees them and attacks them 5 times.
  • yellow trinket - not visible to the enemy team unless revealed using a pink ward, or either of the red trinkets. can be taken out in 3 shots.
  • blue trinket - always visible. only takes 1 shot to take out, but it has a long range so it's good for checking bushes and stuff. also, you can have as many blue trinkets on the map as you want.
  • there's also sightstone, which holds 3 charges of invisible wards and refills once you go to base.
  • you can only have 3 stealth wards or yellow trinkets on the map at one time, and only 1 pink on the map at a time.

the red trinkets are visible if you have vision of the person using it

i use blue trinket on mid and adc because they're squishy and can't facecheck bushes with wards, the range is very useful. but since the nerfs on the cooldown for blue trinket i find it's better to have a balance on your team, so some people take red, some yellow, some blue.

The pink eye over a character means that character can provide vision of stealthed units (wards, Teemo shrooms, Twitch's Ambush, etc). The character with the pink eye still needs to have a line of sight of the invisible object to see it, though - even if your team has vision inside a bush or around a wall, the character with the pink eye must himself see the object. Not too many effects grant the pink eye any more, however.

Red trinkets (both the normal and upgraded forms) work differently. They disable and reveal any stealthed wards inside the zone, and they show any objects, stealthed or not, that are inside the range as red silhouettes.

Stealth wards (made via the yellow trinket or the Sightstone) will become invisible after about 1 second. If many enemies are already near the ward (or one who can do many autoattacks in succession is), then the enemy team may kill it before it becomes stealthed.
