Autoing Gangplank Barrels

So, I searched and didn't see anything directly about this.

Why is it that if you shift+click that you don't AA barrels without clicking them?

Shouldn't it be treated like a heimer turret that just by being an enemy unit you attack it automatically?

I think it acts more like a neutral unit than an enemy one. It doesn't attack anyone automatically, and both sides can hit it
