Irelia's Rework

To Preface this I wrote two days after her rework launched and just left it in a word Doc I went through and updated some things in it to fit better on the new patch but 99% of it is same and these are my opinions I do realize the play rate is higher and irelia is meta now but it is my opinion and yes I played a lot of old and new irelia and was pretty good with her

So in My opinion Irelia’s Rework kind of sucks and within this I will break down why I believe this and why I think some of her abilities where better pre rework

So to Start of let's talk about her basic attacks I’ll be the first to admit that her basic attacks feel much better and feel like they flow better and they are an upgrade compared to the stiff one animation attacks and they fit that blade dancer aesthetic much better then her pre rework did

So Let's talk about passives they can either go on of 3 ways. One they can be the basis of a champ (think ekko or Kench passive). Two they can just be tacked on to fill a quota ( think Fizz or Kassadin Passive). Three they can be an additive to the kit (Think Garen or Galio. I Believe Irelia falls more into the third kind with both her pre and post rework kit but the difference between the two are fairly major. So lets start with her pre-rework passive.

The pre-rework passive gave tenacity based whether it was an even,out numbered, or if you had a numbers advantage the tenacity was capped 10% in an even fight and at level 16 it was 40% in an uneven fight. Now yes it wasn’t expressed well nothing showed that she had bonus tenacity except in when you looked at her stats in the top left but it could be used to truly show off someone's abilities with there mastery of the champ

Now with post rework irelia she gains stacks with by hitting enemies with here abilities up to a max of 4 it gives bonus damage that is magic damage that scales with AD it also gives Attack Speed and deals bonus True Damage to shields that scales with AD. The Fact That just her passive does three different things it does and That it is basically useless at the beginning of a team fight unless you treat it like the current Guinsoo’s Rageblade which be honest how many times do you get a chance to stack it off minions before a fight and the whole you destroy shields faster with the true damage it sucks. In the majority of fights the shields are going to be used right at the beginning and will more then likely not be off cooldown before the fight is over and the majority of shields are used by tanks and supports. Now with tank shields about the only reason you would need to deal with them if it also did damage like sions or you were for some reason targeting them over a carry but with the support shields there primarily used to be put on carries to protect them but even then for the most part the shields are still broken easily and even easier now with the recent patch. The Bonus magic damage can be damn near useless when you need and just overkill when you don’t need it. due to you splitting damage it can be made useless for the most part by just hitting the 100 MR breakpoint and when fighting a squishy carry you can pop them easily with out.

Alright so after all that just about her passive lets go onto the ability that changed the least her Q it’s the same between both but it gives a heal now (was originally on her old W) on usage and and deals bonus damage to minions and proc on hit effects with a passive that when you kill a minion or use it on someone that is marked by your E or R it is reset So Irelia's W I’ll admit was boring in her original kit and is a bit more interesting then before but even then it could be used as a Basic Attack reset and its True damage bonnus to is was much more useful the current irelia's Passive even though it didn’t scale or give attack speed.

So on her new W when used it gives DR that scales with AP and when recast it deals damage in a cone that deals damage based on AD and Apand how long it was channeled. I Feel as though it is counter to her blade dancer design as you have to stay stationary when you start the channel. Now i'm not saying she should be able to move what I am saying that to truly stay with the blade dancer design it should be something different and outside of the blade dancer design it could easily of been the passive but In active form or anything else that could of made her kit flow from one ability to another.

So Her E the ability that people hated the most in her old kit and the ability that I hate the most in her new kit. So lets start with her old E it was a simple yet complicated the difference between a good player and a bad player using it were evident. So heres what it did it stunned if you had less health then the enemy and slow if you had more health and was calculated as percentage and not by Hit Points so if you managed to out damage the tank in your lane you couldn’t just stun him when he realized fighting you was a bad idea and when you had to fight a juggernaut in your lane you had the ability to turn the tide of a fight by being able to stun them and either fight and possibly win or you were able to use it to escape and you could even use it as an opener and get some good damage off before they were able to fight back or run.

So lets go to Irelia’s New E it is still a stun and it is always a stun no slow which is fine but the application of it leaves a bit to be desired since you throw down 2 blades and everything in between gets stunned in a thin line less than malzahar mind you and is easily dodged if there even halfway paying attention and trying to dodge and for the most part the best way to use it is an opener so you can immediately dash to them and like before if the person your fighting isn't tunneling they can back step when they see you start to set up a stun

So Irelia’s old R/Ultimate it was kind of boring but had its uses being able to secure kills when someone flashed away or saving yourself by using it on minions to heal or just using it to get sheen procs it had its uses and it wasn’t to overpowered it didn’t deal a bunch of damage like most nor did it heal a bunch like some others but it had it uses

On to Irelia’s New R/Ultimate it's much better but its uses are limited you can still uses it to secure kills but its either something you use as an opener or you uses it after an E Q combo to get another Q reset before putting it on Cooldown and the cage it puts down that slows and Disarms opponents is way more useful than the old ULT.

So before I end this Post I would like to propose some changes I would like to see. Let's start with her passive I would rather see it reverted to her old passive and her new passive be moved to her with it being an active and it to change the magic damage changed to true damage with no scaling and the removal of the stupid shield thing that barely gets used and just her heal on her Q moved back over to her W where it only healed when active .I would also like to see her E changed into something like her old E where if you wanted to get a stun you actually needed to meet a requirement and was only single target or like in a small bubble around her.
